Howdy crc32...and all - just subscribed to this thread to watch your progress. My desire is to return to trucking in 2011. I have to go to school as have been out of biz over 20 yrs. Stopped by a terminal and chatted on a walk-in with someone, was given info on needing to get CDL, avoid financing school and enslavement to that carrier, and the Squire path to get to Knight, etc. Terminal is about 5 miles from my home.

Anyway, "Howdy" and respects to all!

Well, here I am in.....where the hell am I? Anyway, thought I would post an update. After a couple more break down issues with my Flaming Pete, I gave up on her, and grabbed another Volvo. So, I am sleeping with my feet on one wall, and my head in the other. Kinda like one of those springy shower curtain rods.

The miles have been steady enough, and I have been required a couple of 34hour restarts. Between loads, I have been putting 8psi in my front left steer tire every morning. Otherwise, this is a good truck. She had 60,000 on her when I moved in.

I have to mention one big headache of a trailer. And this is not a short story, but I will try to keep it short.

On Monday( a couple weeks ago now), I picked up a loaded trailer at a shipper in Minnesota. It had a flat on the inside, right, front. I took it to a TA, where they changed it, and pointed out that the tire next to it, was the wrong size. They said, that is why the tire went flat, since it was just scrapping the pavement. They contacted Knight, who would not authorize it to be replaced. Tuesday morning, I contacted Phoenix and complained, and they told me to get it to the Chicago Yard. I then had to wait for a shipment of tires to show up. Wednesday, I park for the knight, and as I round a corner, *POP*. The tire Chicago put on blows. (Bad retread, according to the mechanic). Thursday, driving south of Atlanta, I changed lanes, and picked up a piece of a lane reflector. After, airing up that tire 3 times to get to a Petro, it was punctured in such a way it could not be repaired. Friday, I dropped the trailer with 3 new tires, and spat on the ground as I walked away. May I never ever see that trailer again.

As you probably know, some other poor schlub will get that trailer in the same or worse condition because Knight wont pay to fix it!!!:biggrin_25516:

I agree, this is the worst thing about Knight! The next poor schlub will have to pull that trailer with 3 new tires!!! Ooh, the humanity of it all!

On the other hand, I just hate it when I pull into a yard, and the #### mechanics pull the trailer in for inspection because it is due! And then, the ######## delay me for some hours while they fix it! Sure, if I am under a load, they will get to me ASAP, but hey!, I've got places to go, and people to see!

Kind of "###### if you do, and ###### if you don't", wouldn't you say?

Again, Knight is not perfect, but they are hardly as bad as you seem to think. IMHO, anyway.

A battery operated drill motor fixes tire that the company wont replace. Seems sidewall damage is not repairable.

Well, I was wrong (again), the regs state a sleeper compartment must be a minimum of 75"..... But that applies to trucks built after Dec.31, 1952... Before that 72" was good enough, Oh and the minimum Depth was 18" back then. Would y'all be able to get a good nights sleep in a bunk 72"x18" ??:biggrin_25513:

so a board across the front seats wont cut it?
its honestely not that bad--if you are tired enough
however it does kind of limit how much stuff you can take with you
