I understand where you are coming from and maybe i was a little harsh, but you have to look at it from my side also.. If you let them know from the get go that you want home every weekend, you will get there 95%
of the time.. Like me i do not mind staying out a couple of weeks at a time. If you are coming in a student, percentage is the way to go for the first year in my opinion, because mileage for newbies starts out at .30 pm
verses 23% of what the truck makes for your first month and then it can go up maybe to 27% or more based on your performance! Sorry if i offended you, but there is so much negativity on this forum towards tmc, but in reality this is not a bad place to work or begin your career.. You get back what you put into it, if you don't mind working you will make a good paycheck.. On the weekends you can expect to get home on friday nights or sometimes saturday morning and leaving sunday afternoon.

Everett, SCNewbie and Fratsit Thank this.

Well I agree with you asphalt, its a pride thing if you like the idea of having your name on the door. Not a big deal if you do or dont, everybody takes pride in there work in one way or another and that could be the way some drivers do it.

Good info! I to am going to be starting at TMC here in a couple of weeks and yes people can say what they want about TMC but I will say its better then starting at swift, or CRE, or JB, or SNI.

This may be one of those stupid questions you were referring to earlier, but I will ask anyhow! You stated that in your opinion a newbie(me) should start out on percentage vs. cpm, and your argument makes some sense to me. My question is, if you start out on percentage and later on (say 6 months down the line) you change your mind and want to go to cpm, does the 6 months cpm rate take effect or do you start at the .30 cpm?

I think you have a lot of valuable information that many of us can use, so I look forward to all future posts by you. Thanks.

You are allowed twice a year to swap between the two, and yes when you swap to mileage you will get the rate based on your time with the company!!!

    SCNewbie Thanks this.

Thanks for the lightning fast response! I figured as much, but if you don't ask you'll never know for sure.

I was told by my recruiter about being able to switch twice a year, so I am glad that you confirmed this for me as well.

We have some guys that choose to put their name on the door...not sure why but it doesn't hurt any.

EDIT: Then again, we are not delivering to hubs or other terminals, but directly to customer job sites. It does benefit the customer (if they know any better) to see the name on the door and address the driver by name on a busy job site.

Tmc was at the top of my list in school and somehow I fell into a somewhat local tanker comp. Pay is ok but just keep getting stuck on no money bs runs. How bad would it be to move so early if flatbedding is really where I wanna be?
