Percentage or Mileage

    Trucker dude 53......Yes, that is common practice, run 1000 miles, get paid for 960 or thereabouts.

    If I worked for a carrier I would prefer running for one who paid percentage. As someone else stated, your income is not limited. The more the truck makes the bigger your paycheck.

    When you run percentage your carrier should tell you what the load pays before you accept the load. Most of them should be willing to show you what the load pays if you ask.

    Most carriers who pay mileage do not pay hub miles. In that case you will probably lose some pay due to the way the miles are calculated. Miles can be off as much as 10% off actual miles. Most carriers will pay drivers the way that they bill or collect freight charges from the shipper or broker.

    Doesn't that seem wrong to anyone else? Is it just "one of those things"? either let them steal from you or quit, seems like the only option for a lot of things in the trucking world. Still not right.

    I don't think they can fire you for it. However, on the other side of the coin - how will anyone really know for sure? If anything, I'd suggest telling the company that you need copies of the BOL showing the rate or a comparable breakdown of the gross rate on every load you took for your tax records. If you know a CPA, you might have the CPA draft a letter for the request to reconcile your income and taxes. I believe the company is required to keep those records for up to 3 years (maybe more or maybe less).

    Yes fired, lease pulled or whatever. Dispatch don't want to discuss it with you because you might not take it and cause them grief in thier planning besides the uppers don't want them discussing it with you.....but they know.

    This your truck? Then do this..... track mileage and hours operated for x period and divide by check given. Use industry standards for reference if you do not know your operating costs. But you should !!!

    Last " by the book " power unit numbers I've seen were in excess of $1.50 a hub mile FSC excluded. ( Take FSC discount ) and of course that's by the book meaning first class all the way, taxes paid properly blah blah blah.

    Mercer would show you the billing invoice on any load you hauled if you had a question on your revenue... not many outfits would do that.
