Thanks so much..I'll be the one with the Cheshire cat grin...hehehe..it's funny..I can run equipment and don't remember being this nervouse way back when I had to learn that.. -
Just got off the phone with the recruitor..got all the details..I will be driving the 4 hr trip instead of a 14 hr bus trip..he says so far I'm the only female in the orientation so most likely won't be sharing a room..he says and I quote "There's absolutly no wait time for a female mentor"..hmmm..we'll see but I did let him know I didn't care as long as they were a non smoker..he says because I'm a recent graduate from another school I won't be doing a road test..just the physical & drug and 2 day class stuff..I foregot to ask what speed the trucks were..I had a 10 sp at the school I went to..I have to take my birth cert. because he said they were getting me a quick pass to be able to go into Canada..after the orintation I will drive home and he said the mentor will pick me up the next day..lol..we'll see..I'm just gonna stay in a possitive state of mind..so now I guess I will be going and buying a pair of shower shoes and some supplies..I don't even have an atlas yet..are there specific ones for me to look for? I don't have a laptop and as far as a cel phone well we don't even get cell service in my town so all I have is a prepay that I keep in my truck for just incase so I guess I'll be researching phones and laptops...lol..I just want basic..I'm not much of a fangled gadget type of person but as long as it get's the job done that would work for me...I'M SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED...

There is a flying J just outside of lewiston that sells the laminated big print RM atlas' 29 bucks. You do have to ask, they keep them behind the counter.
We have verizon cells and have been happy with them.
PS: the atlas is spiral (ty wedge for mentioning that, I agree its better)Last edited: Sep 14, 2010

Congrats on Swift. With all the energy you have I think you'll do fine. I also have a pre-hire with Swift here in Decatur, GA. I haven't firmed up my orientation date yet. It will most likely be Oct.18th.
Make sure you have a summer and winter cowboy hat. My winter hat keeps me plenty warm.
As Cookie said the truck atlas is a must, spiral bound last longer if you can get one. Also, a "truck stop guide" which you can get at any t/s, will be very handy for planning your runs. But during your training, it would be best to keep your "extra curricular" hardware to a minimum because you're sharing your mentors truck. Space is not something that will be in great supply. Keep it to whatever fits in a large duffel bag. Just check with your mentor before you bring something along.
Remember that your time with the mentor is temporary. It'll go by faster than you think. So hang in there. It's the hardest part of the process, but just think, your own truck keys are waiting at the end of your training.
So cowgirl up, do what your mentor says, and git'er done.
Good luck to ya! Stay safe driver!sammycat Thanks this. -

Thank you Wedge..I am pretty basic about the only foofoo thing I will take is a blow dryer..and yes my energy needs to be constructive that's why I like haveing something to learn..I have such a routine her at home with animals needing fed and chores that it will be odd making those changes..I sure hope I'm able to get a load to where ever the get together is..I didn't realize how many members were with TTR...lol..I think my mayor would have had a stroke haveing it here...lmao..even though we do have pretty big gatherings that might have been a bit much..but still would love for everyone to stop and throw a line in..fishing is great....Thanks again wedge
and hope to see you out on the road
Wedge Thanks this. -
Also, if your out and about and see back to school sales, grab the little stuff, white out, stapler, pens, notebooks etc. You wont need all that with your mentor but will need it when you get your truck and might as well catch the sales if you can.
gdyupgal Thanks this. -

My experience with my mentor has been a good one, so I hope you get the a mentor as good as mine. Just keep your eye on the prize and you'll be fine!
