I guess I'll put in my two cents.... I am a dedicated driver for SNI so I think miles are good (1800-2800) but it varies from week to week. I have a few friends that run OTR for SNI and they do about the same. I have the new MCP 200 in my truck and I absolutely hate it. Not a bad device, but it keeps up with you by the second. Haven't heard anything about them getting away from it either. As far as the inverter is concerned, I was told that we could have nothing that would not operate on a cigarette lighter adapter. So if that has changed I'm glad to hear that. Once again I'm on dedicated so I'm home every weekend and often during the week. So no layovers for me. I haven't had a beacon truck wash in years. Only the BS wash at the OC so I will have to look into that. I'm paid $15 for each stop after my first but I know most accounts are different. For instance family dollar is $25 after the first. I always get detention after 2 hours... I hope this helps. I too went to roadmaster and I don't wish them on my worst enemy. They do teach you the fundamentals but at a ridiculous price. Looking back I would definitely go the community college route. The orientation week in Dallas is not nearly as hard as some of these other drivers would make it seem. True days are long and at times can be very boring, but all of the instructors will know that you are a new driver and will work with you as such. You will have to be completely lost inside the truck to get sent home. On button-hook day I took out 3 out of the 4 curbs. LOL! And as a professional driver you are going to become friends with a lot of curbs and trees. Some places just were not made for us. Finally, I wish you the best of luck and hope to see you on the road. Be safe!![]()

Well, I have to remember it was a recruiter talking. What the drivers have said agrees with what you are saying.
Many thanks!

Today a freind who is a physical therapist (see picture below) came over to put me through the PWS test and check my pulse, and BP. While we did most of the tests, there was no trouble with the physical part.
I can't imaging why I'd freak out over that so much.
Last Saturday I went to the Houston OC and it was full of tractors and trailers. Made me wonder if everyone is home on weekends.
Looks like things are still on track. Seems the schedule is a bit slow for my liking, but need to hang on until December at present job and have a few side gigs with some nice bennies.

Note: A few months ago when I was keeping a photo studio, we shot some pics on the roof with the Houston skyline in the background.
I got tons of pics after a couple years of studio work. They're mostly just pretty girl pics though. Hope it doesn't offend anyone.

In Reading your questions about the recruiter, the only thing that stands out to me is the inverter issue. The way I am interpreting the rule is that there is no inverters allowed t be installed. If you have sleep apnea , they will install a 300 Watt inverter at the cost of $180.00. However, that is not enough to run a microwave or a fridge.
Best of Luck!

Yeah...I think the inverter is a "no-go". It's not that big a deal to me.
My stuff can run off the cig lighter mostly.
I suppose there are 12v outlets in sleeper area for TV.
How often to you spend the night in the OC?
Do you usually fuel there?
How are the OC's in your opinion?
Thanks!
Merlin -
They sell TV's that run off a cig lighter. WHat my set up is this. I have a TV , a digital converter box (there is a TV antenae feed in the TV hole), and a DVD player. I try to fire up the TV and converter, and if there is a few channels I just stick with that. If not, I use the DVD player. I have a small inverter I bought at Wal Mart I use and it is concealed and mounted behind the TV, so someone would have to be searching to find it. I have had my truck in the shop 4 times, and noone has ever noticed or said anything about it.
About the OC, I am finding myself there about every other day. I was fueling and sleeping there as well. Now, my run goes past the OC twice a day, so it was convenient for my situation. However, this week I was committed to trying to a being a real truck driver, and I fueled where SNI told me to (not once at OC) and I tried running until I was out of hours opposed to stopping when it was convenient to me , as to stop at OC was leaving me with 1-2 hours left to run each time I stopped there. This experiment had mixed results, as I was scrambling to find a place to park, spending too much time waiting in line for fuel, and twice this week I missed some turn either into the truck stop, or getting back onto the interstate that cost me time.
It is a huge learning curve for me, but I keep moving forward.
Good Luck!
Raid3rMerlin1477024 and wildbill123 Thank this. -
Thanks Raid3r!
By the time I get there, you should have left the learning curve and be well down the straighaway.
How many 12V outlets are there in the trucks? I'm hoping for 3-5. Cooler, phone/computer, tv whatever else can be alternated.
Best,
Merlin -
There are four in my truck. One at the dash, one behind the driver seat, one in the bunk, and one in the "tv box".

Since nothing was really happening except waiting for time to pass to the end of 2010, I've been mostly watching a couple other threads and following the posts on Pumpkindriver.com and here.
I'm slated to start driving school Jan 10, 2011 in Houston for 3 weeks, the off to bulk training.
Anything any of you have to offer is appreciated. I've had a PM or 2 through truckersreport.com with a couple of SNI folks.
SNI has always been at the top of my list since July, especially tankers. Last time I drove was crude oil to 200 bbl, all over West Texas.
For now, working on PWS (all #'s are OK, pulse never over 107), studying the Texas Driver Handbook for class A, and regular exercising, including running. Will start on TWIC and passport this week.
Sweating the drug test as had some surgery and drugs will pop up from pain killers. Talked to medical dept and they said just bring in pill bottles to prove was prescribed. (That easy?)
Anyhow, hope to be part of the team soon!
I put about the same exact thing on pd.com.
Regards,
Merlin -
THD ,,,,,,Your not painting a pretty picture at all here!
I'm thinking the tanker division as a new graduate.
Hopefully I'll see some positive sounding stuff, but I do appreciate all pro's and con's.Last edited: Nov 30, 2010
