It's also very relative, the question about safety. I feel safer in most places in Mexico than I do in many areas of the US.

I would take Mexico City anyday over places like: New Orleans, Atlanta, S. side Chicago, Detroit, Oakland and the list goes on.

And I've been all over both the US and Mexico. I had way more problems with corrupt cops in the Southern US than I've ever had in Mexico.

I have know problem with Mexians want to better there life, but do it the legal way.Our big busniess wants them also does some of the larger carriers for cheaper labor and to drive down freight rates even lower. I have the up most respect for the Canada drivers and Iam not from Canada. The american truck driver is the cause of alot of the problems out here and its not just the new drivers it also the older ones. We need to respect each other and stop acting like children. If every driver out there would join OOIDA and help put a stop to the Gov trying to ruin the trucking industry.God bless and be safe.

    Yeah right LOL.

Exagerating the truth just a touch maybe? Actually you had me till you said corrupt US cops? Now you just made yourself sound like a liar.

Dear dear dear Mexico, such a wonderful place. Nobody dies except from old age. Nobody corruption, no poverty. NO ####.

    Kinda reminds me of:

Well, I've lived for most of the past 5 years in Mexico, and I agree for the most part with Prof. Gringo. No, it's not the perfect place (what place is?), and there are places I wouldn't go because of the violence, but that's also true of any major U.S. city. I've had no problems going out or walking around the city I live in (Cuernavaca, about 60 miles south of Mexico City), and neither do most of the citizens of the city. Can't say that about some parts of my home city in the U.S., Hartford, CT.

Whether or not Mexico is a better place to live, and regardless of how corrupt "cops" may be in the U.S., the "bottom line" here is that every load that is transported by a Mexican driver in the U.S. is one less load that is available to an American driver. Moreover the Law of Supply and Demand is inescapable: Whenever drivers are available that deliver loads for lower wages, that can only reduce the rates paid for all drivers. Worst of all, NAFTA, in eroding American sovereignty, has in fact taken control over determining who is allowed to drive on roads in the U.S. away from our state and federal governments and transferred that decision-making power to unelected and completely unaccountable NAFTA tribunals composed mostly of foreigners (one third of them are Mexican and one third Canadian). Think about that next Independence Day!

And with more than 4,000,000 loads crossing the southern border each year, the number of loads a Mexican truck would haul in and out wouldn't make any difference.

If 3,000,000 American CDL holder can't compete profitably against a very small percentage of the 254,000 Federally licensed Mexican drivers, only a minute fraction of which have international endorsements on their licenses to enable them to operate in this country, then boys, we need to all hang up our keys and go to flipping hamburgers or something.

What the Mexico truckers will end up doing since they live in poverty in there country is start hauling cheaper than any American can or is use too.......needless to say companies will keep the cheapest labor like they have been. This is one reason Americans are having to work for less pay thanks to those coming over and taking The AMERICAN DREAM AWAY.

Does anyone remember back in a couple years ago when fuel hit $5/g?

I saw news reports of Mexican drivers getting subsidized by Mexico and they were paying the equivalent of $2.50/g for fuel........

Skateboard loads were running $2.50-3/m and then all of the sudden we were seeing $1/m loads going out.....Hmmmm....I suppose if your fuel is cheaper than the other guy...You can bottom-feed....
