After some research here and other sites I believe that after graduation that I want to be a long haul flat bed driver.
I could be wrong but it seems that the flat bed driver routinely gets long distance runs. that people are generally happy to see you arrive, get their long expected piece of equipment off your truck quickly and then you can expect to get another long distance run shortly.
I do not want to lease. I do eventually want to be an OO.
Which company(s) is/are the King(s) of flat bed trucking. What are the down sides, besides getting wet while tarping and the safety issues.
Thanks for any info. Start school on Monday.

Depends. Yellowstone Trucking used to have an average length of haul of over 2000 miles. They did a lot of jet parts from OH and GA and east of the Mississippi in general, to Seattle. Then took Genie lifts back to the Eastern seaboard. Rinse, repeat.
They aren't around anymore, but I'm sure there are some outfits that specialize in freight where long hauls are the norm. -
Yellowstone is now a part of TMC. And your right, sometimes you can get long haul flat freight... I run from Atlanta to California then back east every once in awhile.
But since this guy is new & lives on I-95.... I'm thinking he'll be doing the short hops & find himself quite educated with the NYC street maps. -
Here is a thread I started that highlights a lot of flatbedding information, humor, sarcasm, & some friendly jabbing from many respected skateboarder's.
It may peak your interest to read it.
