American Trucker -
Considering all of the positive feedback about W&S on here, I think that we need way more info.
........... JimAmerican-Trucker and Jbrake1960 Thank this. -
For sure ....Seen too many good posts on them

I'm just curious here, before everybody jumps down my throat !!
If they are so good, why are they constantly replacing drivers ????
They only have like 750 trucks..........and yet are always having a new group of drivers coming in.
Does this make sense, or should we just ignor it ?halfburn Thanks this. -
1. W&S has a graduated pay scale based on experience. Unlike other companies who have their drivers at .35 a mile within the first 12 months, W&S does not.
Want .35 a mile within your first 2 years? You'll need to seek other employment. This generally gets a few.
2. W&S runs a lot of NW. Many of the newbs (experienced or not) bail after their first winter. If you recall (or not) there is a post with photos in this forum, from a new guy who got caught in a avalanche.
Things like the above, do not instill great loyalty in any company.
As a former employee of W&S, I would recommend them to anyone who can handle the pressure of winter driving in the NW & NE.
They have decent equipment and plenty of miles for those who are willing to work.
Are they the best ? No. But a person can do a hell of a lot worse, without trying to hard.
Oh, and by the way. Did I mention they like running CA, lengthwise?sammycat, LostOne9, wulfman75 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've never worked for them however I have talked to a couple of their drivers and, the bottom line is that they are a training company to a certain extent.
I think that, in their case, the turnover is more pay related than anything else. People come in, get their experience and bail for more money. I've really not heard any substantial complaints about their treatment of drivers.
I'm not trying to disparage the OP either but, I certainly would like some more information as to why he had such a negative experience.
JMO.

They are very smart though. They know the best way to get new drivers is to offer them a truck with no training! Best bait in the world! That's right up there with a brand new shiny lease with no money down! Who cares how many drivers quit! They will constantly have a line of fresh newbies. I would be curious as to what there DOT record is if anyone has looked it up. Also, are there any companies hiring these poor new guys after not making it with Watkins? I have tried to pass along the "no trainer is not a good idea" but it ranks right up there with the "no money down lease"isn't a good idea. Well I guess this is the industries way of sorting out the immense influctuation of new drivers. It is a shame though. These guys spend money they don't have and make promises to their families at home that everything will be alright.
thelastamericanhippy and halfburn Thank this. -
