Questions for Stevens drivers!

Nighthawk, Kenworth has discontinued the t2000, and replaced it with the 700, a cross between the t2000 and the 660. Solo for an average sized guy, the 660 is great. 2 people in here would be tight, I know from hauling a student back to dallas. Had him on the truck for 2 days, that was enough for me. The 700 has more room and will be good for trainers, or big guys.

mgt1085, if you still have your CDL, then it will be the 5 weeks, and the 3 weeks. Depending on the information they can verify, it may be shorter. Call and ask.

 

I hope you are having fun Sinister. When successfully backing up and putting the trailer where it needs to be is such an awesome reward especially when first starting out. When do you get done with training school?

 

My only real complaint about my 06' T2000 is that it can't climb hills worth a lick, even with less than 30,000lbs in the box. I got a CAT in mine my last trainer had a Cummings and it was much better.

 

FYI, the engine can be tuned either for power or mileage... from one end of the spectrum to the other. In Stevens' case, they tune for mileage rather than power.
Hence you will be slow on the hills.
That same engine tuned for power will blow your socks off...but the fuel bill sucks!

 

Sinister, What do you think about the school so far? That's where I'm planning on going. I won a sleeping bag at the last open house last Sunday.
So are you guys saying that 2000 miles a week would be a safe bet?
This may sound dumb but what are you doing while not driving? Could you give an example of a somewhat typical day? If you aren't driving then how is your time spent and how much time do you have to do your own things, whether it be watching movies , reading ,exercising and etc.

 

Reading, sleeping, surfing the internet, sleeping, eating doing laundry, walking the countryside... and did I mention sleeping.

2000 miles per week starting out is a safe assumption. If your going to lease, you need closer to 3000 miles to be profitable, and make more than you would as a company driver.

 

the isx engine cannot be detuned according to warranty. the old cats were detuned and suck climbing hills. dont know the situation of the new paccar mx engine.
