I feel we, as the professionals, should be held to a higher standard.

I have no problem with cell phone usage being outlawed while driving.

I'm sick and #### tired of these clowns trying to exit a truck stop, turn the corner, shift, eat a muffin, and hold the #### cell phone all at the same time.

I'm sick of drivers being on the #### phone, hauling tail through a truck stop.

These #### phone conversations weren't important 20 years ago....they're no more important now.

Yes, I'm for a ban for four-wheelers as well. But we have to set the standard. It's one that is already slipping with sloppy, unkempt, flip-flop wearing trucker-wannabes. :biggrin_25510:

Use a headset if you just absolutely, positively can not be without that #### cell phone for 5 minutes of your day.

    Now.........flame away.

Would you want your heart surgeon on the phone while he's cutting into you?

How about the crane operator loading your flatbed with those heavy steel beams? You want him arguing with his teenager or his wife?

And let's be honest....if you go into a restaurant and the waitress is on the phone and ignoring you, you get pissed...we all do. That isn't a safety issue, but it's annoying and unprofessional.

I'm saying sometimes regulations are necessary. Just because something is prohibited does not make it a sign of the end times coming from big government.

Is there too much government intrusion now? You betcha! But I simply see too much stupidity too often threatening my own safety (not to mention that of others) when it comes to these #### cell phones.

Rules are made for people with no sense and everyone has to comply. Then it ends up the ones with no sense don't comply and the ones that it wasn't a problem to begin with are the ones suffering.

If there is no enforcement, rules are useless.

For those of you who think the FedGov needs to micro-manage every aspect of our daily lives, here's something to ponder; while texting has been painted as the bogey man, creating carnage on the roads, well.......

In other words, correlation does not equal causation.

What you have here is a bunch of people spending YOUR tax money to study something in desperate hope of finding a way to buttress their overly harsh laws and continued control on what you do every day.

Like others have written here, I too get real tired of dodging the idiot truck driver trying to turn a corner, shift and hold a cell phone to his ear in the process. For crying out loud, you can get an inexpensive blue tooth for about $40, about what this trouser stain probably spends on video games or internet porn every week.

HOWEVER, it's not the government's job to protect us all from ourselves. One of the drawbacks in a free society is that you're also allowed to be stupid. Trying to eradicate stupidity is an impossibility, but that doesn't stop the powers that be from trying.

So when your out on the open road, and there is no other vehicle infront or behind you for 1 mile in each direction, And you have the cruise on a long stretch of strait. You really need all your attention on the road? Just the mear effort of talking to somone on a phone is going to take that much of your attention away from the road that you are going to wreck?

If you cant manage to both drive and talk on the phone at the same time. You should not be a professional truck driver.

Infact that is what the law should be. We should not be banning the use of such devices, We should be banning the people who cannot do both in an effective manner from driving.

Just my two cents, but the best that I can figure is that people have been talking to people inside their vehicles ever since they installed a second seat. So to me it seems like the mere act of talking might not be the big problem.
I think the biggest problem occurs with the type of conversation that is happening. If it is just one of those "hi hon I love you", the distraction and amount of dedicated brain cells is somewhat limited. But on the other hand, if it is a verbal domestic fight (as in "hi hon I hate you"), business decisions, problems with the children, disagreement with your dispatcher, etc., then alot of your thinking power is shifted to the phone conversation and away from your driving.
Yes, it should be personal responsibility, and we should all know when it is best to park and talk.

UMMMMMM, Am I missing something here?????

Isn't it ALREADY illegal to talk on the phone (without handsfree) while driving?

I know it is in Mass, you must use handsfree. And I would assume that if they can pull a car over for that, then they would definately pull a big rig over if they noticed.
