What is the biggest reason as to why people purchase new wheels? As I look through the different chrome shops I see new aluminum and steel wheels for sale, there are several explanations I came up with; doesn’t look good anymore, fatigue, polish has worn, wheel is below some sort of specification. What is the real reasoning behind this for fleet owners and O/O??? Secondly, what would make YOU purchase new wheels?

AAHHH! The secrets of the Universe! There are probably numerous reasons for buying new wheels. I think you just named a bunch of them.

Never purchased new wheels. I honestly could care less, I know I'm in the smallest minority on this one. :biggrin_25523:

Hmm - if you had old heavy steel wheels, you could get aluminum ones to save on weight? Have no idea how much it would be.

Curb'n gets my vote. Look around the shop at a T/S, bet you won't find many junkers around except for the ones that have been Curb'd.

Running in a lot of salt in the winter helps to rust your steel rims. Aluminum is lighter, so more pay load.

I have replaced both of my steer axle wheels in the last few months.

They had 1.5 million miles on them and the left one started leaking air, When I took it off and looked at it there was a small crack in the wheel near the valve stem. The crack was from fatigue/age so I replaced the wheel...A couple of months later I decided to replace the other wheel just to be on the safe side.

These wheels both looked like new and were well maintained, They just reached the end of their life span...I destroyed both wheels so that no one would accidentally try to use them.
