You can do your own all you want. But you also have to have 2 inspections done with Mercer qualified individuals. 1 has to be done in Louisville every year & then at your 6 month inspection can be with one of their certified inspecting locations.

 

Wow that's great that they coughed up some bucks for your trouble. Probably didn't really cover your expenses though, did it?

Nothing like the "natural beauty" of a skyline of dirty tall buildings and smoke belching factories!!

 

One of my uncles used to haul manure from the horse racing tracks in Southern California to the fertilizer plants. He would leave his truck in an industrial area where all the truck drivers would park their trucks, and then drive home.

He always did a thorough pre-trip before heading out in the morning. One of those mornings he went out to his truck, did the usual pre-trip, climbed in to his truck and filled out his logs while the truck warmed up and then proceeded to pull out. As he pulled out he felt the trailer "bump" like it would if it had gone over a curb. He stopped and got out to check what was up and found the body of a homeless man.

This guy had crawled in between the tandems on the trailer to sleep, and my uncle did not see him when he was doing the walk around.

Sad story, but you have to wonder why the homeless person thought sleeping under the back of a semi trailer was OK.

It did (Reno - Carson City round trip plus $20 I gave to the forklift driver who drove up after hours). But I certainly prefer to have gotten $1200 the load was supposed to pay instead.
