Basically, the Reagan administration added a nickel to the gas tax for "restoring" the nation's infrastructure and brought up some size & weight increases for commercial trucks...this act was labeled the Surface Transportaion Assistance Act or STAA. It made for some uniformity for longer, bigger trucks to travel what they brought together as a "national network" of roads & highways.

I would imagine on that particular route you asked about Childers...if you are operating one of these longer vehicles or combinations (53 foot trailer, doubles, 102" wide, etc), you would not be allowed on that portion of the road. However, unless it does not specify NO TRUCKS, you could still operate a smaller combination vehicle there. That's the way I would read it but I could be wrong...I have been at least once before. :)

    childerscarl1 Thanks this.
