In all seriousness, your BF should look into working for one of those farmers or a small local company for a couple of years.

His goals are admirable, but unrealistic at this time.

He has no industry contacts, and zero experience...driving or operating his own truck.

The truck he wishes to buy, is too old to lease on with most companies. And will eat him alive in repair cost. He should have at least $15,000 in the bank AFTER he buys the truck and obtains all the other paperwork involved.

I've watched men with 10 years experience lose everything they own within 6 months of getting their own truck.

 

My opinion. He is too young. No exp. Truck is too old. Recipe for disaster. 3 strikes= your out.

It can be done but, we are trying to say use caution. The truck he wants is too old for many companys (as others have posted) If he wants to run locally, find O/O's and talk with them, ask them how/what/when/why. Good luck.

 

Simply put, he's too young.

I would say that he should enlist in the Army to drive some really amazing vehicles.

This way when he gets to the age where people will talk to him. He will have a great Driving History to help him get a decent job.

If he still wants to be an O/O the bank will take him seriously and he'll have finance options.

But, in between now and O/O time he gets a steady check, health insurance and a chance to learn in a fairly forgiving environment.

It's not what you want to hear. It's just my thoughts on the matter.

 

This is what caught my eye. Company drivers haul loads around. Owning a truck is more headaches and takes much more than just hauling loads around. The biggest red flag to me is his age.
