Unless the book is wrong too? And the Oakies ? Been putting decals on the back of their pick ups for years... " Commercial Motor Vehicle " and even etch it into their bumpers....they wrong too? It's not the capacity or passengers, it's what it does in commerce.

Sorry I think you are misinterpting the reg. They are not paying you to drive that car. I just asked the instructors and they say the samething. It is not a CMV, he is not getting paid to drive that vehicle and he is not on duty.

 

The reg's say nothing about pay. Read the one on drug screens, I'm an O/O and don't get paid for driving to a drug screen. So I'm exempt from the rule? Don't quote some instructor. Show me the reg. Remember those words? *baits hook*

 

It depends what the rental is used for. Of course I wouldn't log it because it's one of them hidden things.

But....technically speaking a rental car used to go to a DOT physical or drug test would go under line 4 because you are performing a DOT requirement even though you ain't paid. No DOT man knows what you drove so you don't log the driving. Just the test or physical. Gotta learn to stretch them hours.

Now if you going shopping or back to your motel it is considered an off duty function regardless who rented it.

 

I would go with the line 4 bit but not the 11 hour rule.

 

So you just pick the rules you want to follow and ignore the rest? Some day you will find yourself OOS and parked behind the scale house. Then you can post how those DOT folks were mean to you. NOTE: The on duty time would count against the 14 hr rule not the 11 hr driving time.

 

I guarantee you I won't be on the side of the road parked in a rental car.

Whenever you stop by here, would you please answer the following?

1) Are you previously experienced in truck driving?
2) Where did you do your CDL training?
3) How did you apply to SNI tank job?
4) I have seen a video clip of SNI's physical test. Did you undergo a similar thing or was it different for the tanker division? Any special requirement for tanker driver?

I'd appreciate your answers as I'm getting ready to go to SAGE at Denver and get into SNI's tanker division at Indi,IN /Baton Rouge,LA/ Reserve,LA/West Lake, LA/ Houston/Dallas.
