I 've seen lots of advice on this thread, some good, some not so good. Genetics play a large role in what your physical shape and condition will be. There are differences between the races. Natives are far more susceptible to diabetes, for example. What you really need to do is find what works for you. A high carbohydrate breakfast day after day would make me look like a hot air balloon in short order. In my case, I follow a modified Atkins Diet high in protien, I don't worry about fats unless they are unnatural fats, eat lots of fresh vegetables and about a quarter to a third of the carbs recommended by our guv'mint health gurus.
One thing I have noticed is since the guv'mint started telling people how to eat, people in general have gotten fatter and fatter. Since I have been eating a diet closer to my ancestors, I lost the extra 30 pounds I was carting around.
Now, if you think that was controversial, wait til you see this:
Tobacco is not unhealthy. Yes, you did read that right. Tobacco is not the problem. It never was. What happened is you had three or four tobacco companies start an industry and then do what any industry does: everything it can to maximize profits. You maximize profits by increasing sales. Tobacco companies increase sales by figuring out how to make you want to buy more tobacco. They add unnatural chemicals to tobacco to make it stay fresh longer, taste different and make it easier to process. The paper they wrap it with is full of unnatural chemicals. The filters they put on the ends sometimes have fiberglass in them. When you are inhaling all of these unnatural chemicals including formaldehyde in addition to fibergass crystals, you are bound to get sick.
I do smoke. I smoke 100% natural tobacco and it adds up to about a half a pack each day. I have been doing this for 25 years. I started out on Cowboy Killers and was unhealthy, smoking a pack per day, couldn't breathe after going up a flight of stairs and smelled bad. I learned about all those chemicals and switched to a natural product. Fifteen years later, I am still smoking, but even the doctor has to admit my lungs are in better shape now than most people half my age. We had a
rather heated discussion about this until he ordered and saw my chest x-rays.
So the blanket statement ,"Tobacco is unhealthy" is incorrect. It's not the tobacco. It's all the other s*** the industry adds to it.
I could get started on cholesterol, but I've rambled long enough.
Hoya-Hey.AfterShock and canuck in da truck Thank this. -
Native people are not more susceptible to diabetes on their NATURAL diets. In my generation diabetes, high cholerestol, heart disease, obesity etc were unknown in Northeren people. Today it is an epidemic due to the change in lifestyle and diet. To say we have these problems because we are Native is an excuse which prevents us from returning to the ways of the Elders. Native people from areas where food supply was seasonal were able to store fat during periods of plentiful food supply to last during lean times with no health problems. Last year I was at a potlatch where my grand-daughters recieved their names. I stayed in the Big House for two weeks, living mainly on a seafood diet. My blood sugar dropped to non-diabetic levels without my pills and my blood pressure dropped way down. I believe this was from diet and being in a stress free environment.
You are absolutely right about additives to tobacco. Cigarette companies add chemicals that give you an instant hit. This hit also wears off quickly making you want more right now. South American tobacco, which has a higher nicotine content, is also added to domestic tobacco by these companies.AfterShock and Injun Thank this. -
Native Dancer: Exacty the point I was making about diabetes, but much more concise. Aiish. (Thank you.)

Its not prime honey its you. The problem is you can't close your mouth for 3 seconds. you gotta get a grip on yourself. You can change this. Your not even built like a woman. Your built like a bowling ball. I wouldnt hire a big fat person like you or your roomate. Now your gonna sit there and cry to everyone. They discriminate against fat people. Well yeah, cause your laughable. It shows something about your nature. Shows your weak. Shows your undisiplined. Its like having no self control. Its like being weak and worthless. They discriminate? That would tell me that I better do something about it

Hai BlackW900: Whats all the fuss about flat bedding... I bought my 97Kw from a guy in WV who used it with a flat bed and used to haul coil steel. And he seem pretty proud of it. I'm haulen with a Step deck and yes most of my loads are lighter, but bigger. And I'v hauled dozers, and even M1 Tanks with a 4 axle tractor, and other things that are pushen the weight limit. So what is the big deal. Im not tryen to be sarcastic, I am just wondering, really. Is it that big a deal to haul a heavier load. Thats what I started out hauling years ago. Mostly for myself, large Track Hoe's and Dozers and Front end loaders. So to me this isn't a big deal. But I did not realize that there is that much of a difference between the Box guys and the Flat bedders. Just curious?

You never know, Prime could me doing this on a preventive basis?
I mean, maybe they are considering the fact that if a person is overweight to begin with, they could get worse in a trucking life. I mean, there's a lot of us that tend to eat at idle. Add that to sitting in teh drivers seat 11 hours a day not to mention what we do on downtime. I mean my boss snacks on oreos, cheetos, and other junk foods the entire time he drives, hes GOT to be over 300 lbs. He's a big boy. I have a slight allergy to chocolate, skittles, shock-tarts and other sweets so I'm stuck with popcorn and sliced turkey. That diet has pushed me to 200lbs from 180 in 2003 at 6'1" I bet if I ate sweets, I'd be as big as my boss.
Just throwing out ideas.
