Do you have a kindel? You can get one for about 140 and down load books you want to read on it. It doesnt take up much space and its easier to read off of.

I am very thankful for all of your information all!
I have thought of a kindle and that is a very good solution to the space/book problem. Thank you Gitty!
I have seen at some TSs, books on CD that you take out at one stop and then drop them off in so many days at another TS of the same chain. What a great idea Shriner75 TY!
LastAmericanHippy, you have a very valid question there. I would still have my household bills although the utilities would be considerable less because I wouldn't be there and I figure the food bill will stay the same because I am a raw food/organic/vegan. I don't cook any of my food and the only issue would be to keep it cool which I would do with a plug in cooler. With all of the hours I would spend in the seat, I shouldn't be tempted to go shopping when bored (hopefully)! hehe Am I forgetting anything?

Oh yes you should be tempted to go shopping. And when you get out here, you should start a list of produce stands that have enough room for a truck to pick up produce from. I love veggies too!:biggrin_25522:

Hello from Tennessee. I was in school in my forties and I had a ball. Everyone was very helpful, the instructors here were great, but driving time was a little short per student. Oh well. I made it, drove for 6 yrs. been off the road for 8 and I am looking to get back in to it. Safety, safety, safety, is a good thing to repeat. For truck stops, if you are there at late night, another driver might be glad to walk you into the shope and back out again. I had to ask for a helper when on the outskirts of D.C. ha, they were kind. but mainly take a port a potty with you for it is a good thing when places are cramped and it is 2 in the morning. I used to use my seat belts to strap the doors shut and then a long handle screw driver to put in the hindges of the little bunk windows so no one could get in the doors or open the windows. Some places are a little trashy, ha, but all in all, the trucking industry was good to me. Have a good day and a safe way to go. lydiat

My one question is, How do you pick the trucker to help you back to your truck? Gut instinct? Clean shaved, clean cut? Those are very good points but there are a lot of opportunistic rapists out there, unfortunately. I'm definitely buying some very potent pepper spray and just for good measure I'm bringing along my ferocious dog. hehe
I sooooo appreciate your two cents worth! Thanks for the tip of the screwdrivers. How do you protect yourself when the windows are open?
