Yep looked at Prevosts, Newell, etc. I'd have to have one modified pretty substantially to meet my needs. With Prevost or Newell we are talking 1 million or more for a unit that would work for me. I am sure there are independant modifiers out there that can make something out of a used unit. I am not a modifier and really don't have time for it, but if you know of someone that does really good work in this department let me know. The trucks I am working with now are those used by professional race car haulers just built to suit my needs. They are built on class 8 trucks, using an 8 airbag system. We looked at Renegade, United (out of business), Chariot, ShowHauler. Chose ShowHauler for their construction techniques and neatness of work. I am big on fit and finish. I like quality craftsmanship, I look for detailed work. I had been leaning toward Volvo until I started this thread. Dealership would of course like to see me take one of the 2009 Volvo's they still have on the lot. But now I am thinking the T660 is the way to go, IF I can find a T660 day cab. I would imagine you can order these. Still worried about Cummins or Detroit diesel or suggestions?.
-
If you order the T660 you get the choice of PACCAR MX or Cummins? which one?
-
A new 660 would be equipped with a Cummins or a PACCAR MX... no more Detroits.
-
Im pretty sure the paccar engines are built by cummins. The PX8 and PX6 are at least.
-
You are right... but the new big engines are now being built by DAF with production about to begin at PACCAR's new plant in Mississippi
-
what is available in the Peterbilt 386? I guess if I Narrow it down to either the T660 or the 386 that dictates the engine choices!
Thank you so much everyone for your help! This has been informative! the KW and Peterbilt seem to be the most recommended. Volvo was my first choice, sounds like they have service issues and cheap materials. Freightliner seems to be the McDonalds version of the truck, easy to get, doesn't taste bad, works but cheap.
Quiet cab is important to me, I can't stand to be screaming to my passengers! Quality materials in the components. Good service record, easy to find repairmen, comfortable ride, are all important.
Also can someone explain the ideas regarding "pre-emissions". Could go with a Glider but don't understand the actual "advantage" of being pre-emissions -
Also does anyone have a KW or Peterbilt dealer they just love to work with. One that goes that extra mile to earn my business and REALLY means it?
-
that is funny!!!

No typo we have three brand new coachs with 495000.0 with the new cummings clean emisson engines. No problems yet,( note are vehicles are serviced almost monthly with new fluids and and brakes).
