Have my truck in the shop and was told the turbo is dusted. they want to replace it with a cat reman. Engine is a Cat 3406E 1LW. What is your suggestions on what kind of turbo to go with and where to get it from. In the future I would like to get this truck's ecm tuned so have to keep that in consideration. This truck works on and off road pulling super b's.

When you say "dusted" I hope you mean worn out, not damaged by dirt entry? If the engine is dusted you will have more than a turbo to replace.

Probably the same non-wastegated borg warner turbo I put on my C15 a couple of months ago. Bought it from Turbo Exchange in North Carolina for $1683.00 including shipping. Click on my username and read thru some of my old discussions on turbos for part#'s and phone #'s. It's a kickbutt turbo I love it really woke the motor up with the flash. Puts out 37 psi boost.

    riflemen Thanks this.

Great! thats all I need to hear, I'm not sure the service guy at pete said that the fins on the turbo were all chewed up and refered to it as being dusted, this motor was inframed not too long ago so this is all bad news for me other than I've been reading too many post from you and Mr Haney and actually look forward to changing out this turbo and tuning the ecm. Can you PM me some contact info
    thanks

The fins chewed up on the compressor wheel is an indication that dirt was entering or is entering the air intake system. You need to make sure that everything from the air cleaner to the turbo isn't allowing dirt to enter. It could be old damage and was taken care of before the rebuild.........it could be new damage, which means you need to find it before it destroyes the motor.

    I sent you a PM

I've always religiously changed air filters at my oil changes and go as far as vaccumming out the cans when replacing filters so this has to be old damage, Makes me sick to my stomach to think damage to a fairly recent inframe. :biggrin_25521:

Thanks Mr Haney for the part #s for that turbo, you probably almost need a sticky on this forum for part numbers. I ordered up my turbo today from Turbo Exchange and an FYI for everyone wanting one they have one left on the shelf this morning.
