come on now,you know and i know, when you went through oreintation they taught you to find the accurate cost per mile is you have to alway include house hold expense, so add all those together and then tell us what the cost permile is.. mine is right around $1.20+ -.... thats everything w/ house and Truck etc.....
and for the charge back, i should have said all the bull #### the charge the o/o, and some of the charges are are BS.. and beyond doing business.!!
and i read you can chose ur own insuranse if it's A+ company and thats bull because in orientation they said there is ONLY ONE O/O that has there own DeadHead policy only one.. so u are forced to have there 80.00 a month ins.. just like there workman comp, ur forced to have that, and you know there getting a kick back on all these charges...just like these shops that do the 120 inspections, the person , i know personally at the Patriot Truck stop said they have a contract and LS gets a kickback on all repairs, thats why the will terminate you if you leave the property to have it repair, they will mostly find something wrong mostly!!!!!
im not asking for anything to be free, but lets make it fair from old to new,,yes im new to LS, but not new to the industry...this is all my opinion.would love to have help to make it here.
    thanks

Many Companys require Non-Occ. Insurance, Bob tail. Kick Backs on repairs? You really don't expect anyone to believe that story do you? I have NEVER FAILED a 120 day Inspection. Fair from old to new? Ya lost me there. Who cares what L/S makes? Not me, I care about what I make. You want help making it at L/S yet you start telling BS storys because your having a hard time? Let me tell you some thing, that ain't gonna fly here.

I was with Landstar for about 6 moths last year and I had my own insurance. I know others who have their own insurance also. I did not have Workmans Comp Insurance either, my state and a lot of others do not require it for a company less then a certain size.

As far as kickbacks, that's BS. My friend runs a shop close to me that is an approved LS shop. If there was a kickback he would have canceled his agreement on the spot. He's an approved shop for every carrier he can make an agreement with. The only thing he does special for Landstar is inspect they way they want and fill out and fax the paperwork. He does not make much on the whole process taking into consideration the paperwork required for them

As far as household expenses. Well, that's a crock. Why stop there. Why not include your Viagra prescriptions, vacations, cigarettes, hair cuts etc etc etc....

I don't know how you can include household expences in truck expences. Household expences should come from your wages. With payroll loading you should be paying yourself around $.52/mile. My household expences are under $500/month so should I haul freight for less than somebody with $5,000/month expences? My costs are $2.01/mile. This includes my medical, use of car for business, per diem, sattelite TV, Sirius, computer air card, cell phone, an escrow fund in a seperate bank account for repairs and tires, return on investment, licencing, insurance, fuel tolls, wages, taxes, etc. etc..

I shopped around for bobtail many years ago and couldn't find any cheaper. I have my own workers compensation.

A friend of mine of 30 years does LS inspections and he says your claims of kickbacks is not true. Everybody that I have sent to him for inspections have been more than pleased.

Is everything rosy at LS? Definitely not!! As a matter of fact there is so much wrong with them you could fill a 10 page forum without distorting facts as you have.

I've never been to orientation or brain washing as I call it. Maybe some day. If you have 18 years experience I'm sure you know way more than the people giving the orientation. I'm not very happy right now so I have an idea what you are going through. Hang in there and hopefully things will get better for you. Wish you the best of luck.

I'm not with Landstar, but I've had very good luck out of their Load Alerts system as a carrier for the brokerage. I'm sure they explained that in detail in orientation though..If you're still stuck, you might try HNI out of Indiana, I pulled a load out of Gladys, VA at the GP plant for them a couple of weeks ago to just outside of South Bend, IN, and it paid pretty well.

In defense of the agents, I don't think it's so much a matter of Landstar being a good ol' boys club as it is the agents wanting to use guys they know are reliable.

i am sure l/s is a big adjustment--compared to working with a company--- or possibely even with your own authority---
i am interested in getting on at landstar--and from what i have seen--you will have to possibely take a crappy load to get out of the east and into the better lanes
and then just watch where you go--almost have to plan ahead 3 loads to make sure you arnt stuck out in never never land
