3 years and has yet to happen to me and I run probably 70% of the time I'm out at night. I'm the guy rolling in at 8am about to go to bed and plenty of parking available. If I have to find a place at 2am, I'm getting creative and finding the nearest shopping plaza that I can.

I hope for your sake it never does, but your chances are alot greater when trucking at night. I know its happened to me. Hit one deer, to many near misses, numerous drunks and sleepy people.

Yeah, sometimes its hard to find that hotel that has big truck parking...sigh, but without that "shack on the back" we have to put up with staying at a hotel when we are out over night.
Its the cross the day cabbers have to bear, but we manage.

2:36a and I'm on my way to JFK Airport for delivery. And I'm starting out late for me. Oh and I never pass drunks, ever.

become a team you never have to worry about parking.......you just drive and drive and drive and drive and drive and did I mention I'd like a break?

Deer "run" during the day too. They're a lot easier to see if drivers would turn OFF the stinking road lights at night, and "deer whistles" do actually work with many of those stupid critters...

1 out of every 10 cars you encounter on the road (on the average) has a drunk driver at the wheel - day or night...

Fortunately there are less of them!

Drive within your ability to see what's in front of you.

On the other hand, there are a million amateur idiots out there during the day who are 5 minutes late to wherever they're going and PO'd about not getting to Starbucks soon enough - and they're not going to let your 80,000 lb CMV inconvenience them - even if it means trying to run you off of the road. DOT seems to start work at dawn, and the bears get out of the donut box about the same time.

Those of you that think Walmarts are truck stops are going to get us kicked out completely where we can't shop there anymore. Just because they allow us to shop there doesn't mean you can take your ten hour break there.
Those that pick empty lots and places for sale to park are opening yourself up to a trespassing ticket. Things are tight now, but use your head when you get creative.
Side streets in an industrial complex is a good alternative. I would stay away from shopping centers as I heard of too many getting ticketed or towed.

That makes it more complicated indeed. I used to write down the locations of good parking places or even abandoned truckstops.

I could team drive with my wife (if she drove). I had the misfortune of teaming with a son-in-law.........Someone kill me. For some reason we got on this S. California run and he got addicted to Tommy's Hamburgers....Y'know the ones with all that chili?

    Not good.
