I just found this forum after being on another one which was soooooo negative as to make it seem like every trucker was miserable and hated waking up everyday...I start school on Oct 4th and it's refreshing to see it's not all doom and gloom...Maverick is my hope at this point as I have a cousin that works for them and is very happy...
I'll be reading thru here and ignoring the other forum...
Thank god, some positivity!!!!

Those are the miserable truckers. We kicked them off here!
I guess they herded up again like a bunch of cows.
Welcome aboard! Maverick is a good choice.Mastertech and rookietrucker Thank this. -
Thank you for the reply and welcome...I swear they were the most unhappy negative people I have ever talked to...I will be hanging out here and doing a lot of reading thru the threads this weekend!!!!
I've already read the entire CDL manual and have taken every online prep test I can find many many times to try a be a page ahead once I start school...If there's anything else I can do ahead of time, I'm all eyes!!! -
Yup, we're only miserable every second day here.

I honestly try to put a smile on my face (even when I know it's a lie) every time I step down from the truck; say hello or morning to the drivers I meet in the lot (startles the hell outa some of em) and hold a door for the driver behind me. Makes me feel better if nothing else. I notice this is more common with the Southern drivers. You folks "up nawth" are a bunch of sourpusses, walk along looking at the ground and avoiding other drivers.
Likewise, I'll try to say something encouraging (if I really see it) to the "newbies" out there. For example, the other night in Meridian Ms I had an obvious newbie in one of the most god-awful looking Prime trucks back in beside me. Took him a few minutes but he put her in there real nice. When he was doing his circle check I rolled down my window and told him so. That young guy's face lit up and we had a nice chat about his family and how he hoped things were gonna go for him. When he left I got a big smile and wave.
There's enough grief out there without us adding to it.
Likewise here. We'll advise as we can, but it does get old when we hear the same questions over and over because the newbies don't take the time to do a "search" first..... or when someone who is not a trucker comes on and starts telling us how stupid we all are. -
Hmmmm, how long will it be before you join the others on here? Talking about how negative everyone on this forum is.
-
Reading the manual and taking prep tests is probably the best thing you can do. Safe trip.
-
LOL!
Nah, I can see it's night and day compared to that other forum...They even had threads on how negative everyone was!...
I want to learn and be as safe as possible with a place to come to for positive criticism and resources, I think this is that place!!!! -
You will do great and make lotsa money !!!!!!
At least you have set your sights high, and picked a very good outfit.
Best of Luck !!! -
You can go and get your DOT Physical and your permit ahead of time, as well as take your endorsement test, fill out the application for your HAZMAT endorsement, Get started on the Passport Process if you don't already have one.
You Don't have to do any of the above before you start school, but it will reduce some of the stress at the beginning it's allot of info to take in as well as cram for your permit. And as far as HAZMAT and passport paper work, if you start it now it will be ready and waiting by the time you finish school.
Good Luck!
American Truckerwulfsbergvw Thanks this. -
I second the op,
I am very happy with discussions that take place in this forum. 2 years ago I started with interest in van expediting, that lead me no where, except a major advertisement for being a long term employee.
I am getting in it because the o/o possibility. had it not been for that; I wouldn't bother. and having a cdl is something I find valuable.
good luck, with your school.
