I have my passport already and definitely want to get my HAZMAT...I was thinking of getting the permit before school but since they pay for it I changed my mind...If I have to pay the extra to take the HAZMAT test at the same time, I will..I've been studying everything I can trying to get as far ahead of the game as possible, thanx for info!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank god, some positivity!!!!

That helps alot, I know that a couple times veteran drivers have actually said something positive to say it can make a rookies day.
Usually the veteran driver is just waiting for the rookie to dork something up then blast him. -
Welcome to the forum Walstib.
Good luck at school. It's exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. If you're like I was, you'll enjoy every minute of it. Even the boring stuff.
Surround yourself with positive people no matter what you're doing....in school, driving, life in general and you'll soon realize that's the way to go.

I used to be a flight instructor and went thru tons of training, some recurrent, I know how to 'act as if' if when I don't feel like it!...And I've been married 23yrs, I also know what battles to pick, even when I think I'm right!

When I was giving road tests for a company I used to work for, I noticed the biggest complainers where always the worst drivers. I have never known anyone to be good at a job they hate.
And they usually don't stick with it either. -
The HAZMAT test will be around $20.00, your background check will be about $90.00, i would get them early so when you start school you'll be ahead of the game. We had to pay for all of the tests & permits.
Good luck in your new adventure.

Can I get those without the permit?
-
I would check with your DMV & see if you can. At school we had to have our drivers permit before we could drive on the public streets.

Well, there's a reason why there's so many negative people in trucking.
To just tune these people out and put on a happy face ignores the realities facing the industry.
Let's face it: the hours suck, the benefits (if you even get them) stink, the pay isn't in line for what the job requires, and the turnover is through the roof.
My uncle made $43,000 driving a truck for a regional operation in 1983...that is probably average pay after a year or so in 2010.
And you wonder why there's so many miserable people in this biz?Ignatius and jakebrake12 Thank this.
