My wifes uncle retired from there after 29 years, he dont have any bad stuff to say about them, he seemed to always been happy there, I will try for a OTR job there soon, If I can get 2000 to 2500 miles a week, that would be fine, I dont need benifits, already got them thru early retirement.

Just like any other trucking company.... dispatchers or driver managers have their favorites and those they don't like.
If you don't need the benefits then I would look somewhere else.
After working in trucking for 21 years and as a dispatcher for over 10, I can tell you that unless you are one of the favorites you are not going to "g" with at least three of Averitt's dispatchers. They have a smart attitude about them. Personally I don't think a driver has to be talked too like a dog. A dispatcher can get what they need done with out talking to another human being that way.
Your first six months will be great, after that make sure to come back and let us know how you made it. You can ask around...it's all about who you get as a fleet manager. They can make you or break you.

wow, If they will hire me Ill do that, but I doubt that they will, Im 50 years old, I took a early buy out from the Gov, and I still have to work, kid in collage etc, but I took the buyout because if I didnt, I would have been laid off, I would gladly drive for someone else, averitt is just the closes, and hauling is bought all I know,

As far as I know Averitt has LTL division as well. Have u ever switched to that? Is it hard to get into those positions if u start with OTR first?

I'm thinking to switch to Averitt. Why is my first 6 months be great? Is it because they will try to impress me so I will stick? Thanks for your input.

  11. Im thinking of signing on with averitt out of amarillo tx for the dedicated dollar general account. anyone done a dedicated dollar general before? how many miles will i get a week, how many stops and does averitt pay extra for stop pay, the only info i have on them is .36 cpm, And on time off they told me every weekend they try to get you home i also heard every other weekend. my ? is Will they let you take the entire weekend off? or only let you take 34 hours off, i ask that cause there is one corporate fascist of a trucking company (local) in amarillo tx that will only let there drivers take restarts at home, and keep them running too hard all other times, and im not gonna play that game with anyone. I want the equivilant of 6 days off a month, whether it is every weekend or every other weekend or wether i stay out for a whole month on an over the road account and take time off all at once.

Can i do that at averitt on the dedicated dollar general runs? i cant do OTR with them since i dont have a hazmat endorsement yet.
