Can anyone answer this question........I have an offer from MTC, not real happy about that and leaning towards not attending there. They want $6K and from the reports I have heard and read, a dump. There is a school in Ft. Laud which is 1/3 the price and accredited called McFatter. I know the school, it is an accredited trade school too for other vocations. Also MTC is not PTDC. In addition, I have my CDL-A but can not get hired as I do not have recent experience. Here is my question....Once I complete the course at McFatter's (320 hours, 9 weeks), what are my chances of getting hired? Can anyone lend some insight? captdavey22

Get online and start filling out applications. You've already got your CDL. There's a thread somewhere around here that lists tons of companies where you can apply.
    Good luck!

im a little confused.if u have your cdl-A already, why would you go thru cdl-A training again?and why would MTC want to charge you 6grand.thats sounds like they wanna send you thru there school.but you already have a cdl-A.you need to apply to training company's that will put you in a seat with a trainer for 4-8weeks or more depending on who you go to.and there is a shiot load of them.
Stevens, CR England(but i wouldnt go with them, just my .02), MTC(but confused as to why they wanna charge you 6k), Swift..this is a great site to do some research. But fair warning, dont believe everything you read.and everything recruiters tell you..start hitting up there websites..ask plenty of questions, and you can always go to the DAC section on here and do the same. best of luck to you

I am totally confused. Maybe when I mention to recruiters I went and took a 7.5 hour course at a local un-accredited school and recently got my CDL-A and then learn I dont have any recent experience they shun me off. Let's look at it this way, I have a clean record, no tickets, no drugs, no convictions and never any arrests. I am willing to take a second seat and drive with a trainer for the 4-8 weeks or what ever it takes to go solo. What company would hire me? Can anyone offer any suggestions? CaptDavey22

If you got your CDL, YOU GOT YOUR CDL! ...or is it a CDL learning permit?
If it's a CDL, like others have mentioned, you should be able to go with a company that accepts recent grads with a CDL. But from a 7.5 hour, local non-accredited school, I fear you just have a permit and would have to go through a complete CDL training regimen.

A 7.5 hour course is not recognized driver training. That may have been enough to get you past the CDL exam (barely) but is not worth mentioning.

Accredited schools require 160 hours of instruction.

Accredited schools will also provide a refresher to get you in the door if needed.

Your good driving record will help, if you have any towing experience parlay that into a commercial towing position. Maybe find an O/O that is hauling cans out of the port, or a FedEx contractor.
