LOL...cool!! Glad he made it there!

Stay focused and don't worry if you'll have a job or not now. Do what you need to and you will!! Take it from me bro, this meant rebuilding my life and I was worried about that too. It's a distraction you don't need. You got yer feet wet on day one. The FUN is about to begin! :biggrin_25525:

So good news really does travel fast......Roxy read this thread, who then passed it along to Tim and Vern, and they firgured out it was me haha. I was planning on asking Tim about that guy who posted about how bad W/S was and about Tim, well Tim Says he thinks he knows who posted that, Roxy found that thread too :biggrin_2559:.

    Anywho,

So today we learned about this shifting technique they teach, then after lunch we went out and started to do it, at first I didn't really understand, I thought they wanted to Raise the RPM to 1600 then shift, BUT what they really wanted us to do was: (I'll explain for any future New W/S drivers as I wanted to know more about this before going to Orientationn)

    1. Slow down to 1200 RPM
    2. Take it out of gear
    3. Raise the RPM's to 1600 RPM's
    4. Then WHILE HOLDING the RPM's at 1600 push the Clutch in and grab a lower gear, WHILE STILL KEEPING IT AT 1600 RPM
It will slide into gear so smooth you wont even feel it, I didn't get it at first, thenMattt walked me through it, then I felt like an idiot lol. It was really easy once you understand what it is there talking about.

Then Mattt took myself and two other guys out on the road for a road test/evaluation or something like that. Of course I got to go first:biggrin_2555:. Well I've been waiting roughly 14 years to be old enough to be an OTR Truck Driver and I REALLY didn't want to mess up. I was sweating So much lol, we went through some Really tight right turns and stuff and I didn't hit anything, I ground a few gears but not too bad, I only got stuck out of gear once. So all in all I think I did good.

2 Down 8 to go! lol

I'll be back on later I'm driving a couple guys back over to the terminal to practice our shifting and backing...

like i said somewhere, its good to practice those revs, even just in the lot. when you learn the splits you will be a step ahead of the game and hills will be cake.

We did 3 hours of shifting and backing, all three of us did good. I got to parallel park a tractor for the first time lol It was very interesting haha but I did get it in. Much easier then I though it would be......

Time's going by like a rocket, isn't it?

Sounds to me like you've got a handle on your training already. Those shifting techniques will come in handy when you have to deal with the hills. Cool, ain't it? Makes it easy to control all that weight you're hauling around. Over time it'll become second nature to you.

Stick with it, AT. Keep up the good work!:biggrin_255:
