I have a model year 11 Prostar and I want to put a load scale to the drive axels with the dial in the dash.

I called International and the guy there is talking about electronics, wiring harnesses and computer programming. He said it would take four days just to get a parts list.

Well, pardon me for my BS-o-meter heading for the red zone. I had one put into a model year 09 Cascadia and all it took was some air lines and a dial. It was less than $200 total to get it done. This guy is saying over $500.

So what's the real story? This guy trying to fleece me or is he telling the truth?

    Thanks, y'all.

He may be talking about the digital readout type, or trying to rip you off, all you need is some 1/4" air line, a air suspension gauge or even a oil pressure gauge will work, add a T in the air line between any two airbags and your set to go. On my gauge 62psi is 34,000.

maybe International has a factory option one tied into the wiring harness. never heard of it but it may be out there. Teltek makes a good gauge.

He maybe talking about doing it to factory specs. All you need is a gauge of your choosing and a "T" fitting and some air line. Unscrew the fitting on one bag install the "T" then hook the line back up. On the open side of the T hook up the air line you bought and run that up to the dash and connect to the gauge. $200 should do it.

and to make life even easier it doesnt have to go into the dash if you dont want it there--can mout it on battery box or in jockey box if you dont want to cut holes in dash

yes, he is trying to do it factory, because the digital dash cluster in those things are a world their own, and all he sees is dollar signs. like the other guys said, do it the old fashioned way, and take it to a reputable non-dealer shop and have it done if your not comfortable doing it yourself. just my .02 worth.

I just priced an Air-Weigh set-up today...$600.00 for tractor, trailer and quick disconnect. I always pull my own trailer so I want one on there. The Air-Weigh displays in pounds and is accurate to + or - 300 lbs.

Bet ya he's is quoting u on an Air-Weigh "Quick Load" scale system. They are kinda neat looking, but all they are doing is converting PSI off your air bags into LBS and displaying them on a fancy digital gauge. Lots of extra $$$ for little bang.

Personally, I don't think he's trying to fleece you, as that's "about" the going rate for Air-Weigh gauges. But, when you can get by on a $25 PSI gauge and some air line. I guess its your call.

Heck, on second thought I dunno maybe $100 a month in scale ticket fees. Would only take 6 months to pay one of these units off...

When I was running hoppers I got sick of shoveling "stuff" to scale out. I put in 2 of the right-weight guages with lines for trailer for less than $300 Once I had it calibrated ( about 10 loads) I could scale to within 300lbs just buy looking at my guages while loading. I ordered the guages through Rush and they sent them to the front door so I had them waiting for me when I got home. GL
