If I remember right, if you live more than 80 miles from a terminal they don't really hassle you about taking your truck home while on off time. Their biggest thing is in the winter is keeping it plugged in so it will start when you are reaDy to roll.

99.9 percent they probably do.. the only hire along there running lanes or near there terminals.. We do alot of Minnesota and Chicago so i'm pretty sure they do.. I was just out there last week, it was raining like hell along I-94 lol, but yeah give em a call, should have some openings if not now the'll have them in the near future do to most guys leaving due to the e-logs..

ok cuz i only live like 287 miles north west of chicago an im roughly about 65 miles from i-94. I dont think they would have a problem with getting me home of course i would probably have to call them to find that out. do they have a contracts with sarah lee foods or kraft foods or even walmart?

Can one of you Van Wyk drivers tell me if they hire from the Pittsburgh PA area? I see them on the PA Pike quite a bit. If they do, would you know what type of running area I would be doing? I have no problem with the northeast as long as it doesn't involve the big apple. The only other question I have is where do they hold orientation and how do they get you there? Much obliged.

@hawkjr, I got your PM the other day about the refrigerator. I am not a real regular on this forum so I don't get my notifications until they decide to show their face in my e-mail inbox. I usually turn off my refrigerator when I am on hometime. The first Volvo I had here had some serious electrical issues, so I would always come back to dead batteries, so this has become a habit of mine. Tim got me switched over to this new Volvo since I am training now, and boy do I wish I had my KW back! The first load I took with this thing was ice cream out to Cheyenne, Denver & Colorado Springs so weight was not an issue. After that I went down to pick up a load of meat going to Jersey & the bills said it was 44,150 lbs. I scaled it out over in Garden City where I was grossing 79,430 lbs! Did some quick math and come to find out this behemoth is a little over 1,000 lbs heavier than my KW. It's going to be real fun when I add another 450lbs of chains on here to go out West! I am in now so keep an eye out for me. @TDriver4Life: I wouldn't be surprised if we hire from that area. We are regulars in Harmony, PA, New Stanton, PA and then there is an Aldi's in Saxonburg off of 228 I have been to a handful of times. Just give Tim <phone number removed>. He will be able to give you the low down on our hiring area. If you just wast to bounce around the Northeast that is doable. We do quite a bit of outbound freight from the Sysco RDC in Front Royal, VA going to Syracuse & Albany, NY, Jersey City, NJ, Boston area and Eastern Maryland. Every now and then they will send you into Long Island to pick up for Front Royal, but we have a few guys that have that as a regular back haul. Just mention Westbury, NY to a VW driver and more than likely you will get a groan of displeasure as a response. As far as orientation, we have that at our main yard in Sheldon, IA which is in the NW part of the state. If you live close to the PATP you could more than likely hitch a ride with one of our drivers, but Tim could probably help you more with that.

TDriver, I'll agree we run alot in the northeast so they may be in your area. Remember, you can refuse a load, it's not forced dispatch. Check out their website for more info. Good Luck!

I just spoke with Jeanne in recruiting and she told me that they are not hiring here in the Pittsburgh PA area. So thanks anyway for your help Mattaponi and Husker Trucker.
