there was your problem...............you WAITED..............if it were me, i'd be calling at least once per day for sure, possibly twice per day. all that WAITING you did in between calls makes you look like you didn't really want ANY driving job. you should have "hounded" them till you got a definate answer.

That is exactly what I would have done.

That sounds weird. I wonder if you can call them up and get one of those free phone cards they give drivers (do they still give drivers those free cards?), or maybe qualify for benefits.

A fellow trucking school grad went to work for Swift right out of training, quit after three weeks, and kept getting free phone cards for probably 6 months after. Swift just kept loading his card with free minutes.

I have something that will really knock your mirrors off. I was driving in my four-wheeler (a ford f-150 triton v8 YEAH BABY) today getting ready to take a left out of target mind you I was behind the designated white line, and a SWIFTIOT almost tore of the front end of my truck with his trailer. He was taking a left turn in across THREE lanes of oncoming traffic and didn't take his turn wide enough. The moron got about 5 inches from my truck and LUCKILY there wasn't anyone behind me because I put it in reverse and floored it.

    *blink blink*

So there I am in my precious truck having a heart attack because swift almost hit me and KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK on my window. It's the driver.
He parked his truck in the right side of the driveway to target to come and tell me sorry for not taking his turn wide enough and almost hitting me while at the same time he is blocking incoming traffic trying to get into the freaking target.

In my head I was singing "SURE WISH I FINISHED TRAINING DA DA DEE DA DA DUUUHHHHH!"

Am I making this up or are you NOT supposed to try and take a wide left turn across three lanes of oncoming traffic? Wouldn't it make more sense to turn into the driveway that is designated for TRUCKS ONLY so they can dock it faster without having to enter in the civilian driveway?

    I dislike swift. :D

I wouldn't have floored it. In fact, I wouldn't have done a thing. Somebody could have been back there. And you probably would have been at fault if you'd have slammed into him trying to avoid the Swift wagon.

I would have sat there and let the trailer swipe me, as painful as that would have been. No way would I have risked my own health, another driver's health, my property, his property, or my driving record for a Swift driver who didn't get enough training. A Swift driver who didn't get enough training because Swift can't keep drivers around long enough to be trained properly or become trainers who can actually train properly.

Swift really does need to be investigated by the feds. Surely their frequency of fender benders and majors warrant it. If I were driving my car around and a Swift truck as much as broke one my fingernails, I'd be suing them. I'm really tired of hearing of all the stories about Swift wreckage caused by SwiftCo passing off its spillover costs to society.

Swift is similar to Ford Motor Company. Remember the Pinto? That little deathtrap of a car that was commonly exploding back in the day when rear-ended? Ford decided the "fix" would be more expensive than the lawsuits from victims, so they did nothing about it. Training drivers properly at Swift may cost that company more than the lawsuits caused by inadequate training, especially if idiot right-wing politicians have managed to cap lawsuit damage awards.

I just did a check of their latest numbers, and they currently have an ISS-D of......69

They are benefitting from the revamping of the first of the year, in regard to safestat numbers. In fact, several carriers are enjoying better numbers than what they had last December.

Their last compliance review was in May of 2006, and apparently they passed.

It will be interesting to see if they can keep that lower number.

69? No way. Not Swift. If you hadn't told me, I'd not believe it. 69?

Wait. 69? Makes me believe for about a second that somebody at Swift is paying somebody off in the government. I know that isn't happening, so I have to think that maybe a miracle is happening at SwiftCo, and those guys are getting their acts together.

I hope they do get their acts together. I'd love to see Swift and other rotten eggs become good companies we'd actually WANT to work for. I'd even get my CDL back....well, maybe I would.

Well keep in mind I knew there was nobody behind me. If there would have been somebody behind me then I would have just let that moron swipe off my front end. My insurance would cover it, I just wanted to avoid an accident because well... I love my truck.:yes2557:

I still wouldn't have done a thing. Why would I react? The Swift driver did see your fender coming, after all. He should have been the one to react and stopped. If he would have stopped, I would have still just sat there. It would have been a good lesson for him to be stuck straddling three lanes with horns blowing at him from two sides. Sounds like he needs that kind of a lesson.

I understand where you are coming from, yeah that makes sense. My four-wheeler is my precious though. I would have a heart attack if anything ever happened to it, so if I can avoid an accident well I'm going to do it. :biggrin_255:
