Gotta really love to drive to be a driver these days. That or have an ex-wife taking all your money. :biggrin_25522:

Anyone who drives truck for a living and hates it is insane, IMO.

I personally love it. I've been driving for about a year now, started with USX, that almost ruined me on trucking, but then hooked up with WSE and have loved almost every minute of it.
There are ups and downs of course, crappy truckstops,, lizards pounding on your door at 2 am, bums getting pissed cause you dont have any cash. Chuckling
at swift drivers backing into a spot.
But I love the open road, most days I look out my window and just smile, im not killing myself at a construction site, not stuck in a cubical in some drama filled office daydreaming of an ak47.
This job is not for everyone for sure. But right now I wouldnt trade it for anything else.

Because Burger King, McDonalds, Wal-Mart, etc are not going to work you 80+ hours per week and let you sleep in their stores at night.
The wages in trucking are low, but it's one industry that will work you round the clock because there's no overtime in trucking.
So the gross looks good at the end of the year ($40-$50k) but the hours are a killer and you are basically living out of your work vehicle.

I did trucking for the experiance and it paid off. But winters kept me from doing it for a living. Dispatchers putting pressure on newbies to drive if the roads are open which is rare roads are closed. Winter driving you are fine one minute then the next minute you are sucking the seat and 4 wheelers driving like morons on the ice, to fast or to slow and never finding the flow. But yes those effing dispatchers need to relax on a persons first winter out there, so be ready to let the dispatcher roll off your back like water to a ducks back.

Both my sons started working on farms/dairies at 15-16.Driving tractors and field trucks. But while my oldest son was away in college, my youngest son (whom was recently killed) started at the bottom and worked up the ladder. He was an appliance delivery man,the furniture delivery for the Bon Marche' (which they called federated logistics)then onto Sparklettes bottled water delivery, then to a flatbed truck and trailer, then to log trucks and then to this company who was a wood products and cleaned up the logging sites and with 40ft end dump trailers hauled the debris to a mill for processing, was crushed to death when a buddys truck /trailer rolled over on him pinning him there for 9 hours. The irony of this whole tragedy, was that in 2 months, he would have gone to work for the Washington State highway dept with his best buddy, and could have quit the dangerous woods forever.Instead of being able to quit and walk happily away from this dangerous job, to a much better and safer job he was looking forward to, he was crushed to death and carried away in a black zippered bag and put in a coroners van.My heart was crushed that day as well and to top it all off, he died on his brothers birthday.
    Heres the truck picture...
