I do not have any home-time requirements, and can make my residence most anywhere. What trucking companies can I apply with that will utilize my availability (e.g. holiday's, weekends, etc), and do I need to be a resident of the State they operate out of? [I'm thinking about Nevada or South Dakota as my "permanent residence."

No you do not need to be a resident of the state a company operates out of. Keep in mind companies will not hire out of every state. Some will but most have a list of states they hire out of.

    TweedCoat Thanks this.

If you do decide, I would choose Nv. Especially if you go owner op one day. There are better tax benefits. A lot of big companies use this as their address. Central Ref. being one of them. You don't have any relatives to stay with back home? I also wouldn't jump right into it. You may decide you hate trucking. Give yourself a few months before making the decision. Plus you may get a particular run in which you go through a certain town all the time. It would benefit you to maybe take residence in the town you pass through the most often.

Interesting point, Chompi. I will need time-out of the cab, but it doesn't need to be any particular place, or even the same place. Still, if I happen to be going through the same area, it might be good to check the snail-mail once in awhile.

You're the kind of trucker that Truckers Home Base was made for.

Thx, JC. I looked into the Truckers Home Base, too. The only problem now is being in the hiring state of a company I would like to work for (like Watkins-Shepherd). I'm currently in Kansas, a virtual wasteland...lol

Many companies will hire out of TN. Many roads go through it.

I know W&S require you to live within a 120 miles of a terminal.

Not sure if all companies have a rule like this but it's worth checking out.

Cookeville? I live on the other side of the plateau from you. Exit 317 and down the mountain.

    TN is good, I-40, I-81, I-65, I-24 and I-75 are major corridors.
