I brought my 05 isx to the cummins shop because I was getting some oil in the water, was told it was the oil cooler. They took the turbo off to get to it and plugged the oil holes so dirt wouldn't get in it. The mechanic forgot to take out the plug on the return line and they run it blew oil past the seals, said they were going to flush out the cac and see if the turbo dried up. Come back and said it looked ok and were going to flush cooling system 2 more times. I was outside of shop heard truck running on dyno then a very bad sounding noise. Went back in and sat down 5minutes later they come in and said my motor locked up didn't know what happened. What happened? What should I do?

You took in a running truck for service.
    A mechanic mistreated it.
    Now it doesn't run.

I'm thinking they should be fixing it and quick because you are loosing money.

Unless the truck was tore up first, how far did you run it with water in the oil?
    How much water?
Did they check the bearings before dyno?
Did you refuse to have the bearings checked?
    Did they recommend it?
Does it have a broken piston or did a bearing go out?

At this point they need to prove that the damage was pre-existing to charge you for repairs. The mechanic may have made more than one mistake.
Was the dyno deal a look and see thing?
Did the turbo damage cause enough oil to hydraulic the motor?
Was the CAC cleaned properly before running the motor? (did motor hydraulic on cleaning solution)
If the damage was pre-existing why would they put it on the dyno and finish it?

Is this a shop you have a relationship with or are you passing through?
Does the shop have a good rep?

Motor was excellent just got oil sample results back friday everything normal,it was oil in the water the housing that holds the oil coolers was pitted under the gasket they put a new housing on,, happened 6 pm friday, pulling pan monday, no reason to think anything wrong with bearings,it was oil in the water not water in oil, they said they were going to flush out the cac it didn't take them long 30 minutes maybe. Can you flush an cac cooler? Put on dyno to warm motor to flush cooling system only. I'm guessing it hydraulic. Had work done there before good results this is a cummins only shop.

thats sucks to hear about your bad luck, in my opinion it should have had a new turbo put on instead of trying to see if it wwould have dries up, if the seals started pushing oil into the cac system then the seals are blown-theres no saving them, if they are thing that the motor got hydro locked due to the engine oil then it would have had to push some serious oil throught the turbo and into the intake, which would leave me to beleive that there might be bearing damage due to low oil level. keep us posted please i would love top hear more about this and see what they find is the "root cause".

#5 piston and rod bearing. They admitted they screwed up must have gotten something in the oil passage. They are looking for a recon motor and we came up with a settlement that I thought was fair.

I'v heard that you have to be extremly carefull when you remove or replace an oil cooler on an isx so that dirt doest get in there or you will have a major failure like a spun bearing

glad they found the problem and are doing the right thing, not a lot of shop around that will be honest and "do the right thing".

I'm guessing that the bearing damage is a result of the piston damage which is a result of the motor hydrolocking. There is a good chance there is damage to more than one cylinder.

I wonder if the mechanic still has a job?

Drug a dead bus into the Cat dealer yesterday and while I was dropping it I noticed (because of this thread) that all of the trucks that were being worked on had covers over all intake holes, even the outlet of the air filters! Plastic corks or paper towels hose clamped over the openings.
