I got someone who is 5'3" and they wonder if they are 'tall enough' to become a truck driver. I told him I have seen some short drivers but I figured it be best to ask you guys.

I'm 5'4"...no problems for me.
Saw a guy once driving a Columbia and he had no trouble. He was about 4'2". Your friend should be fine. -

1) that huge belt buckle will be bigger than him.
2) the all you can eat buffet table he will need a stepladder
3) he will get lost in the bunk of a condo, although for him a condo would actually be a mansion.
4) he won't be able to wear a 10 gallon cowboy hat, but he can bathe in.
5) he might get blown away if its windy outside............
HMMmmm............
can't think of anything else................

worked with a guy about 4'8"----and he was running ice roads and off road alot--iirc he had blocks on the throttle and clutch and the seat might have been reworked a bit--mind you tho--thiis was in a 1970's western star--when trucks werent as cushy to drive--and he was one tuff sob--cold ####ed one guy with a ball peen when he was mouthy--he also had 4 brothers that were over 6 feet--so he had to be ruff and tuff

Just for grins, I slid the seat up all the way in our Freightliner daycab at school this morning.....uh, I am only 5'8" and 145lbs. and I had to bend up like a pretzel to fit. I don't know about all models of trucks, but a very short person could reach with no problem...pedals and steering. One of the ex-students stopped by a week ago and she was definitely no taller than 5'0"...and that may be giving credit...and she had no issues at all.

Honestly? You're probably better off in a tractor at 5'3" than where I am at 6'3". I found a way to fit and be relatively comfortable, but I can't stretch my legs, and the seat backs are designed for torsos shorter than mine. It's giving me a bit of a hunch.
Meh. Short answer is: No prob, bob.
