i was just wandering if a local trucking school would be the way to go compared to practicing in a friends truck to get your cdl?.and another question i have is that I spoke to an instructor at a local school by me and he said if you atend with them that they can place you with most likely an otr company, well, why pay for the school if you can attend an otr company that will train you for free if you stay with them for however long it is? maybe there is something im missing. I guess if you attend a local school you can take a pass on the otr placement oppurtunity to try and find a local job to be home every night, but the local jobs i hear are slim, any thoughts would be appreciated
is school a must?

If you have someone to teach you then most likely you could find a construction type job running straight trucks with no school and limited experience.
Just have to learn how to drive the truck with your friend and have a truck to use for the test.
Doing this for a class A job would be much harder, it is possible, but harder. Not as many company's would hire you for a combination vehicle without experience.
