True indeed. The wrench part I'll pay for. The other part I'd prefer to do myself or at least keep in the family. I find that the other guys tend to think about their pocket before mine even though I'm out here humping it.

I can do a lot of the work my self I spent 4 years fixin em but I would hate to use my time off making repairs. However, I can fix stuff in an emergency.

What about a year as a company driver and then signing with a big company like Werner, Swift or Heartland? I see lots of good deals on trucks right now NOT to think about becoming an o/o. Beats any fleece option plan the companies have and you get the tag deductions. Seen a 2007 taday with about 250k miles for just under $50k.

50k is a pot full of $$. Why start yourself out that far in debt? Overhead will make or break you and for a new O/O, buying a 50k truck is NOT a smart move in my opinion.

You can buy trucks all day for 15-20 with like 500K on them. Just look around some and you can find better deals.

Used truck prices have come way down. I started looking for trucks that could be bought in the thirty five range, say listed at 36 - 44. Then, I went down into what once was considered the bone pile of container trucks, I ventured into the minus 20 range and to my surprise, I found decent trucks.

Now in that range, you will be looking at Internationals and FLD120's, mostly 99 - 03. But some of the options were interesting.

Nothing wrong with a century class or an IH with an 03 or earlier Detroit in it. May not be the most powerful motor but the fuel mileage out of a pre EGR motor is pretty decent and the reliability of the detroit is always a plus.

One advantage of leasing to a carrier besides what's already been stated is the discounts you may receive for things such as fuel, tires, maintenance, etc......
