After weighing all my options and looking over the copious amount of info contained in these pages I have decided to go to US X. I report for orientation on the 18th in Springfield Ohio.

I'm excited and a bit nervous. This is whole new adventure for me. At 50+ I have done a lot of things, but this is the first time in a long time that I am just flat starting from scratch. Brand spanking new. Eyes wide open and mouth for the most part, shut.

This forum has been a great help and has answered a lot of questions.

I have found that there is no such thing as a perfect trucking company. Some better than others. Some great for getting started and getting that all important 6 months to a year under my ever expanding belt, but not perfect.

I have learned that truckers (like bikers and Marines) are an opinionated bunch. Often quick to anger, and usually just as quick to offer.

I have also learned that in trucking, like most things in life, attitude counts. When all else fails, attitude can get you through.

I'll post when I can and document my process and progress at US Express.

Congrats! Like the other poster said, you should start a positive thread on USX so that the others know what it's about. So what were the reasons or conditions you went there? I have a friend who runs regional southeast for them and does pretty well. He makes really good money and has 2 1/2 days off a week most of the time. Thank your lucky stars too, he said they are phasing out all of the automatics! Good luck to you, looking forward to see how your experience goes! Orientation and training can be a blast! Maybe take some picts and post them on your thread. Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!

    Thanks all,
I had a great talk with a USX driver. He was very up front. The good and bad of it. Frankly it's a crap shoot. If you have the right DM, and your dispatcher is more than half witted and actually cares about the drivers he/she is pushing around the map, then it will be great. Do your job, pull your weight (pun intended) and understand that your not the only trucker on the planet and things should be fine. Same crap shoot with trainers. This guy told me he had a trainer from hell who actually sent him in the truck stop and then left him and all his gear. This after a slight disagreement over music or some such. His next trainer was great. This endeavor, like life in general is just a grand crap shoot. I will keep you posted as I can.

The automatics are going away? I had not heard that. Good. Well Ok, I was on the fence about them, but would prefer a standard.

if, and i do mean IF they are phasing out the automatics, it could be for any one of reasons......

    cost to buy........

    cost to maintain....

    problems with the automatics.....

not good as expected results in fuel economy...

    driver abuse.........

i drove 3 trucks with the "automated shift" transmissions..........i don't rally like them. i prefer to shift my own gears.
