Was getting fuel in South Carolina today heading back home to Georgia when two guys walked up to me at the fuel island and started talking to me. They noticed the town I am from in Georgia ( small rural area in the mountains) and asked if I was heading back home. Asked the guy what the hell he wanted to know for and started telling me there story and mentioned a few people we knew in common.
They looked have starved and offered them a sandwich which they both took advantage of real fast. The two of them in different trucks now have been with Werner right at 4 months, have not made it home in that time, and were as broke as broke can be. Told them they needed to return there trucks then quit, but dont just leave the trucks. Poor kids didnot have any family members that had the gas money to pick them up at the terminal.
Talked them into folowing me to my lot, dropped off my truck, jumped in my car and followed them down the there terminal outside Atlanta. I personally walked in with them as they turned in there trucks and said that they quit. Not a anything we could do to keep you, can we talk you out of it, nothing at all. When we were walking out to my car there were aroung 5 to six guys standing near the gate with bags and such. From what i gathered they just quit also over not making much money.
Is this that common, is so hope that I never get into a situation like that, alone how could an employer treat there employees like that.

Terriable story
Hope all works out for them -
Man, I'm glad that you were there to help them. I hope that they will find better companies to work for than Werner. I hate hearing this. The economy is bad enough, and now the companies are basically using new drivers as slave labor, because they are scared to quit and try for something better.

I recall people in similar situations during the brief periods I tried TL freight many years ago - nothing new here. These same companies always have someone trotting about stating they make $80k a year and are home weekends....

Thanks for helping these guys out. Did they mention what their plans might be? Not home in 4 months? That's terrible.

The guy that lives in my area stopped by earlier this morning and found him a job driving doing local deliveries in the area. Not heard from the other kid to see how me is doing.

That was very kind, may your kharma cup runneth over!!!!!!
HFC and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -
Horrible. And you would think being out for four months they would have *some* earnings to show for it. Werner should be #### ashamed of themselves. I will talk $*!) about that company until I die because that is not the first Werner horror story I've heard. One could only hope they get bought out by a real company. -

One of the local kids was telling me yesterday that one of the biggest problems he had was when he would go into there terminal they do an inspection of your equipment, and it seems every time he would be stuck there for several days and on two different occasions up to a week.
