I would relocate in a heart beat, except, I am unable too..we own a business..our grandchild is here, our parents need support..etc.etc. you know the normal things families have to deal with. It has nothing to do with a "gimme" attitude...it is called responsibility!Last edited by a moderator: Oct 9, 2010
SpyderRyder Thanks this. -
I started out with schnieder and drove for them for two years..... prob the best place to get started in driving in my opinion... then move on to search for some better pay. But schneider is a good place to work for, prob not the best but hey.

I see some company's up there allot.
Heartland, Kennedy, Western Express, and some others. But not allot to haul so the ones that go suck up all the freight.
I do not know where you work now, but check around the poland spring plants and see who all drops trailers at them.
That will give you an idea of who has major contracts in the area.
I know Dysarts is up at Bangor, do not know how they pay though. -
I have kicked around getting back into this business or a few years. Having kept an eye on SN, they have become rather diversified. Having gone into tankers and tankers w/ Hazmat, regional. Intermodal has come about and would not be surprised if they introduced ref. service. With the poor economy yes, they did slow a bit and in my area (atlanta) suspended new hiring and no "new" drivers. However probaly through regular attrition they cranked up again. It is obviously a solid outfit and year ago had a reputation for ugly trucks(had a ton of internationals w 300 cummins, ugh) Now with the climate of a lousy economy you would be hard pressed to see many complaints and for its size would bet the turn over is lower in its class. The lease options seem resonable as wel. Good luck!

Funny....I had a recruiter come to my SCHOOL IN MAINE last week from SCHNEIDER!!!...they are looking for regional drivers.....NOW!!
They ARE accepting new CDL grads from SOME schools, including MINE.
The school had a list of 12 company's hiring new grads in Southern Maine...so company's DO HIRE IN MAINE!!

After my wife and I get in the groove of teaming, I hope to consider SNI's tanker division. They are hiring teams for tanker. I believe the shippers and consigness for tankers are a little different than for dry freight.
I did drive for SNI thru a fleet owner. Never one complaint from me about them. -
Schneider use to be awesome, today they are just another trucking company. I worked for them 1997 to 2000 and couldnt have had a better experience as a company driver and with nearly 32 years total I know the good and the bad.
In 2002 Donnie Schneider retired (uncle Donnie is what they employees use to call him) after that the company went to hell in a hand basket.
I went back to work for them in July 2009 as a dedicated accounts driver. Making less than they paid in 1997. While I was there the discontinued holiday pay for drivers, profit sharing for office personnel and short term disability. Not that the short term was anything to write home about. 200 a week before taxes and insurance.
While I was off after in Dec of 2009 for non work related shoulder surgery I was fired for not returning to work although my Dr. would not release me to go back to work. Was fired after I refused to resign. They fought my unemployment and lost. 3 weeks after they lost I got a phone message from a recruiter asking me to call them about being rehired.
Its really sad I use to brag on how well the company treated their drivers.
