I'm thinking about leasing a truck and trailer through Ryder or Penske. Anyone familiar with their truck and trailer lease programs?

An Ideal Lease sign at the International dealer in Lincoln,NE today showed a monthly rate, for a day cab, of $3000.00 plus 0.12 per mile. Not shure it makes business sense to rent/lease.

i cannot come up with prices. i think that in some locations, only a business can rent/lease out trucks. fee's would be different for each business, but i cannot see the $3,000 per week the other said is accurate. that could have been a monthly rate.

i was a former Ryder and Penske, and Lily employee, and i can assure you "up here" in New England, you had to be a business owner not an individual.

Thats doesn't sound right at all. Ive had brand new Prostar sleepers through Idealease at 500 a week and .07 per mile. That was a weekly rental rate. Sign a long term lease and it can be cheaper.

No clue what the monthly rate is, but I do know that while your leasing one of their trucks they pay 100% of the repair bills, including tires. Excluding abuse of course.

Most of the Ryder and Penske places also provide fuel at a discounted or club rate. Its really cool, kinda like your own secret fuel island, and many are full service. They fuel your truck for you. Not to mention they have free truck washes, many have showers to use free of charge for the drivers.

Saw a sign in a repair shop to lease from one of them when your truck was down. An owner operator should be a business anyway. If nothing more than a dba.

I'm planning on doing a three year lease and get my authority running under my name or business name. I was looking into this because they do all repair work. If the truck breaks they will give me another truck to run while my truck is in the repair shop. Just something to think about.

I worked for a company that leased Penske trucks. There seemed to be a lot of maintenance issues. One truck had a bad tranny - you had to hold it in gear or it would jump out. Lots of fun while going down a hill and downshifting, moderating the jake, and steering around corners. (I almost had to get off of my cell phone).
Another truck had the grungiest mattress I had ever seen. I had to pinch it into the upper fold-up bunk and pull down the cleaner, different-sized mattress from the top.
Let's see, what else . . . cracked windshield, leaking windshield (different tractor, and only when standing still, (like when waiting for hours to get loaded)).
A few more things I can't remember right now. Wish you had asked me earlier . . . Oh yeah one tractor had a shimmy you would not believe at 45-50 mph. You better accelerate through it or else slow down. Cruise control sometimes didn't work. This was all in something like six or eight trips total. There is more, but that is the best I can recall for now. Problems with the trailers too (such as no trailer brakes due to failed ABS part, improperly "fixed" by the company), but I don't remember the trailer company.
And we were supposed to pick up a tractor at the yard but it wasn't there.
They do fuel the trucks and all you have to do is pull in and give them your mileage. In and out in 10 minutes usually. They check the fluid levels and clean the windows, but they do not do everything that the sign says they will do.
My advice - Inspect the truck from top to bottom, and ask a few drivers there what they have experienced.

Penske is bad news from my experiences. Idealease is good, depending on the dealer. Thing about Idealease is they are dealerships with good mechanics, unlike Penske. They want you in for your 20k PMs on time. Take care of the tires, etc., if that truck needed something it got it.

Penske gave me a brand new Volvo a couple of months ago. Nicest truck I have ever been in, except it wouldn't idle or get up even small hills in north Texas. We returned it after they said they couldn't do anything about the idle.

They gave me a POS Century that was beyond disrepair. I made them take it back in the shop and clean it, then put a new mattress in it before I drove from south Louisiana to Jessup, Md. with no radio. I was so shaken up by the time I got back, I felt like an old man.
