And since when is anyone in "this forum" the IRS? I don't have to prove anything to anyone - especially someone with, what, a weeks' experience as a trainee - who then quits?
You want answers... here's one. You should quit whining, grow up, and get tough about your life. Because that's what trucking is about.
Prime, never been insulted by employer before.

Interesting indeed. I was serious about prime and made a small joke as to the "training time" We (team) were dropped like we had a snake head! So to say the least, a bad taste in our mouth followed. Do outfits rope the dopes in then spur them on and high turn over means nothing? Is there such thing as a reputable company that treats good drivers like humans? I do not believe Prime would fall into that catagory.dukeofearl Thanks this.

Tough, yes. a poor image, you bet. Essentially all companies get the same amount for moving something. Its how it is managed that is th key. Larger may not be better. We see where the loyalty is then we see where the happy folks are. Then we see the money. simple formula. Even a dummy like me understands.

Funny this should come up... Today I hit $20k combined between my 401k, IRA and savings accounts.
I was eyeball deep in debt when i started this little adventure... I'm currently debt free... Carry no balances on my credit cards. Car is payed off, and I pay my car insurance the full balance at every renewal.
Monthly bills consist of my iPad data plan, cell phone, and air card for my laptop (which I'm thinking od dropping as my iPad does almost everything that i usually do online)
401k is the easiest as it automatically comes out of my check... The other two take discipline...
Oh yeah, and all of it from my Prime Company Driver paycheck. -
Let me get this straight...
Step 1: go to Prime's CDL school
Step 2: for whatever reason things dont work out with instructor.
Step 3: weigh options as you have been told that it will be 4 months to get another instructor
STEP 4: DO RESEARCH ON WHETHER PRIME IS THE RIGHT DECISION
STEP 5: COME TO CONCLUSION. "nobody who leases with Prime has given anything but blurry responses"
I think a couple of your later steps should have been done first. -
Oh please. I've heard all of that before so stop going to the indexed response book. Guys like you say the same thing over and over about how tough trucking is. I've shoveled snow for ten hours a day in sub-zero temps in NE, worked in NJ kitchens in the middle of summer and did construction for years, kid. Trucking is sitting on your butt for half of the day in a temperature controlled environment with a radio. Yeah, you get out to hitch, grab paperwork, eat and shower. I wish guys like you would stop with the "trucking ain't for wussies" rant. There are a ton of jobs much harder where your boss is constantly looking over your shoulder. I actually liked driving a truck but my instructor diminished the experience with his nonsense. You've blown enough smoke about Prime so any response to me concerning such will for now on be discarded immediately.
You go ahead and keep thinking you're the bigger guy because you have been doing this longer, I could care less about your ego.
And I didn't quit. I TRIED TO SWITCH INSTRUCTORS. It was explained in the other thread, which you have conveniently ignored.Last edited: Oct 10, 2010
dukeofearl Thanks this. -
The cost alone to lease at prime would scare me
If they make it that easy for anyone and I mean anyone to lease then u have to look at the ..
1 cost of operation fixed costs
2. Success ratio
3. Truck value . Vs what you are paying
You can put bells and whistles on trucks
1 side boxes
2. Apu units
But it still don't make it worth
800- 1000 a week -
Kind of off topic, but since this is a Prime thread I thought I'd ask...
Doesn't Prime own part of the old Howard Johnson's resort motel in Springfield? The part that has the atrium and indoor pool?
We used to vacation there back in the 70's and 80's when I was a kid and always had a room around the atrium. Stopped by there a year or so ago to walk through it to bring back memories, but all outer doors were locked. Prime tractors were sitting everywhere.
That motel was really showing its age by the late 80's. Just wonder what it looks like now? -
If a L/O with Prime makes such good money, why is home time such a big deal? I understand you need to keep moving to make money but when I hear that an L/O lost money for being home three days out of 4-5 weeks, I start to wonder how profitable it is.

A company will do whatever makes THEM the most money. If their profit was greater in hiring you to drive their equipment, that is what they would do. These outfits push a lease program so THEY can make more $$, not to make you rich. Most drivers will not do well on a lease/ purchase plan through a carrier. Pure and simple.
