I'm on 80 meters through 440. It depends on who I want to talk to.
But most times you can find me listening AT 14.302.5

I pretty much stick with 2 meter. Sometimes 70cm. We do have a very good repeater net around here.

How's the activity on 2m ssb there? I haven't really tried any 2m simplex (or much repeater use at that... I'm more of a listener!) except for some playing around on MURS with a buddy.

2 SSB is not a heavly used mode but has its rewards. If you have a radio with it built in try it durring contests ..... I run 2 meter FM also on simplex again you can work station all over this state and even the southeast on a good day ...

The Key is a good antenna I run a CAABC32 which is like a GP-9 and run our SSB net off of it we use vertical because most stations with multimode radios don't hace a horizontal antenna but SSB used HORIZONTAL.

You don't need a great station to work DX only a well thought out one ....
Many here are running FT-857 or IC-706s and have worked 20 or more states.

    But .... I'm a bit nuts I also run 223 simplex too .....

I have a FT-857 sitting here at my desk. 20 states, you say? Wow. I was excited to hear 146.520 used recently in my area. Have the freq to be scanned with the repeaters and heard a nice long qso on my way to work.

Hah, how many contacts have you made on 1.25m? I think we have a repeater around here on that band...

Out of curiosty, tune to 28.231 sometime and see if you hear a beacon there... it's coming from my area. ( http://fieldcomm.org/gk/index.php?topic=beacon10 )

as far as HF I've made my contacts on 20m, but that's because I have a monoband dipole :) I'm thinking of adding on and getting on 40 or 80... but I rarely talk as it is, so not sure if it's worth the trouble of doing so. Starting to learn CW, so maybe that will have more interest with me in transmitting.

223 is not active here I have been on 223 since 1974 ..... just a few over a wide area of central Fla.

Interesting contact on 18.150 at noon sunday was a station in mane on AM yes AM . I using a R-7 which works well from 40 - 10 meters and running just 15 watts AM ..... yep a amp would be nice.

Dipoles work well I have a DX-CC 90 foot long one that covers 80. 40, 20, 15 and 10 AVOID the G5RV if you realy want to work dx it is ok n 20 but drops off quickly on other bands I also have run a SPRIO dipole ( http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/2725 ) with good results but you got to get it up HIGH .....
The HYGAIN 12avq i had ws plaged with problems but the Hustler 4VTB ( http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/1285 ) worked like a champ with enough radials.

The only band i have not done much with is 12 meters ...
