Can anyone reccommend a good quality external speaker? I've blown atleast $80 on a bunch of crappy speakers. Something that's nice and loud.

I have found the UNIDEN ESP 20 EXTERNAL SPEAKER sounds good. And hold up in a Big truck. I use them on all my radios.

Buy a Texas Ranger SRA-168-CP best speaker i have used. It is a little on the big side but u want quality not quantity. Check out my Pic gallery it is hard to see my speaker but you can also Google that model to check it out as well I hope this helps you out with your choice of speaker

Thanx Chops. Just used my reward points to get a Ranger SRA-168-CP. This thing is big beefy and bullet-proof. Sound quality is awesome too. Chrome is definately a good look on the dash too.

I wonder if the speakers they used to use in police cars wouldnt be a lot better. Like the old Motorola or GE MASTR stuff. You can find them surplus in places like Fair Radio Sales in Lima Ohio or Ebay. As long as the impedance is 8 ohms it should work.. These speakers were built like tanks...

I also use the TR 168. I was lucky and found mine a few months back covered in dust sitting in a corner of a pilot on sale for $20. I was shocked but quickly bought it up and have never regretted it.

I purchased an Esp20 ext speaker. Hooked it up to a 94hp Galaxy and now when I key up it hums or buzzes. If i move the mic around in the air, I can find a spit where the humming recesses, yet you can hear the humming in the vocals. I had a cheapy skinny wire speaker prior to this one and it did not buzz. The ESP20 leads are a whole lot thicker. It is a way better quality speaker. I have mounted it even further away(upper right corner on passenger side) than the old speaker. It still has a hum. I did the rag over the mic deal, rag over the speaker. Still hums. I am using a RoadKing mic. Single Striker whip, 18ft coax. Many thanks.
