a lot of companies start guys off as team drivers. How long does this last? and can you request a new co-driver if it's uncomfortable or awkward driving with them?

I wouldn't say a lot of companies, unless you mean with a trainer - then it can be 2-4-6-more weeks depending on the company. As far as trainers go you can generally always request a new trainer if you have some irreconcilable differences or if he's just a #######. Same I would imagine with co-drivers but you might have to tough it out for awhile because they probably won't be able to switch you out overnight.
Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
There's a large difference between a team and being trained by a mentor. Could you list the companies that you're speaking about and that way we might could help you more.
Thanks

I've never driven for Schnieder, altho my brother retired from driving after 25 years with them.
As far as I know, Schnieder doesn't force teams. If you want to team drive, you come with your co driver and put it together. Like so many other companies, this is often a husband-wife team, or a couple good friends.
I suspect you're talking about the training period where you're out with your trainer for x amount of weeks.
They will try and get you to work out any differences with your trainer, however if all else fails, they will put you with another trainer.
What specific questions do you have? -
Many companies now days do force teams on new recruits. Challenger does, mind you they don't open say it at the outset. You can request new team drivers, the DM's tend to get pissy after a while of changing though. I drove team for a little while with several co-drivers. I would only drive team with the first fellow again out of all of them. That, or with my buddy that drives for ERB. We get along very well and know we work well together.
Other than that, I doubt I will ever drive team again. Just not for me, I like having a little downtime other than breakdowns.
