Thank you. That is very helpful to know. I have been looking into CDL schools but was not comfortable with what I was reading. Very enlightening. I have been talking to Squire Transportation regarding a job when/if I ever decide on a CDL school. What do you think of Squire/Knight Transportation, are they good employers? I have been giving Schneider serious consideration also. Was relieved to see what you wrote about them to.

I like your wish to help students. but there are 3 typs of students, 1 already has the job just need the Licence, 2 the over the road driver that needs more than how to drive rules regs logs, ect then the 3rd student has the B CDL. wanting to upgrade and maybe a bit advanced in some areas but needs help or a refresher.
3 at a time the operating cost will burry you.
Call PDTI for help and advice

I am new to this awesome Forum, and do appreciate the comments here. I would like to start my career as a Truck Driver and would like to start it right. Therefore, I have a couple of questions: 1) Does anyone know of a community college in Fort Worth or Dallas, Tx that has Truck Driving school in their agenda? 2) Or can someone recommend a fairly good Trucking Co that provides the schooling in order gain that year of exp. Please reply soon. Thanks

glad i went to an independent trucking school for the B. when i go for the A i'll be taking private courses at a truck school, cheaper then a course (5k for the A). i dont need to redo all the stuff i did during the B class's. its very wrong what they are doing, but if you payed attention to the elections on tuesday, america has just won a victory over these greedy career politicians. things will be turning around for america.

I have studied many companies and found that only a few will hire and do a good job at training, Stevens in texas is one that I've been getting good reports on. some of the schools they may hire out of I can't speak for some play a good game and only teach you to get the licence nothong more. one of the training schools here in Buffalo NY. uses a pup trailer and a day cab to insure you can pass your road test, Ok that's good you have your A., but I've driven schoolbus's longer than that. select a school that has a PTDI creidation PTDI audits the schools this I know for PTDI came in on thier anual audit while I was training. hope this helps.

Question was that to get your A or did you get more. like log training dispatch O/O how to maintain health on the road, and what state did you train in some states are anal bought CDL's NY. is ANAL, so many regulations that do nothing but put hardship's on the drivers, inshurance companies own the polititions here so figure thier rapeing the people(that cost gets passed down too).
by the amount you paid I take it you got to drive a shiny truck and learned to pass a road test. but are you ready for the real world of over the road, thier are many laws that must be folowed or it will be $$$$$ out of your pocket, No Joke!:biggrin_25521:CSA 2010 will hit many Drivers, in 08 Bush was still in office, today Oboma and the Dumbacrat cronies made inflation the new thing. this past election it may get better but tomany Dumbacrats vote not knowing status quo in a sinking ship leaves the ship still sinking

Lots of great posts here. The more I read the more confused I get about selecting a school. I'm determined to make a wise choice though, so the research continues...

Is it usually sensible to travel 1000 miles to go to truck driver school, to save the same money you would have to spend on things like a motel?

It seems more sensible to check out what is in your immediate area - the prices, the endorsements, the placement history, the student satisfaction rates, etc..

And don't forget about - what equipment do they train you on?
A lot of entry-level training companies, like Swift or CRST, won't accept you if you trained on short trailers. Make sure your school trains you on long trailers - 45-53ft.

You also want experience with at least a 10-speed tranny.
