Well lets see here. Some people say they were treated fine, others say they were not, some people do not trust any companies, others find a way. Its impossible to say why, do your research, try and ask as many people as possible, and hopefully you will have made a sound decision.
-
The thing is I am doing most of my research on this forum. Could you recomend any other ways or sources to find out who is good and who is bad, besides here and the recruiters?
I also noticed alot of big companies are mentioned here, but almost nothing about small companies and start ups. How do I go about researching them?
What is a good decent starting wage for a begginer for me?
I am also thinking of going with schneider. I was wondering what the bad and the good about this company? -
Spend some time at a truckstop. If you see a truck from a company you are considering, walk up and ask them if you could ask a few questions. Be polite, and keep in mind, they may not have much time to chat. Offering to buy a cup of coffee works well too.
You will find some that will have no problems answering your questions, but you'll find a few that will tell you to bug off too.

Thanks.
What is the standard starting rate for a new driver like me should be? -
You can google trucking companies and go to their websites to find out driver requirements, and in most all cases pay scale. You can then look up their safety ratings, and ask others once you find one that will work. Before looking you have to decide what is for you. Do you want to be gone 2 - 3 weeks before getting home, or do you want to be home more frequent. Their are companies that hire school grads that will get you home weekly.

Well, one thing to keep in mind would be that 1 or 2 complaints are easily overlooked, because you just can't please everybody. But many complaints, often about the same thing? That's something else.
Basically, if the majority of people you talk to that work for a particular company are happy, the odds are that you will be too. -
I think that it really depends on what is important to you. What is important to us might not be important to you. Hometime may be more important to one driver where getting more miles is more important to another.
All trucking companies are going to have things here and there. Like someone else said - really beware when you hear the same things over and over again. Remember it's impossible to please others so you need to find out what will make you happy about a company.
We have taken a list of about 45 things that we made up to find out about a company we are considering. We then have all the information we need to try and figure out who we want to go with.
I've told my husband that I feel like we are comparing oranges to pumpkins. They are both orange but then things get very different. One company may pay more cpm when another offers bigger bonuses or layover/detention pay etc. Insurance may be better with one but vacation better with another.
It all depends on what YOU are looking for. -
You could have the best job in the world, according to you, but your twin brother who is doing the same exact job as you hates it. Your job is what you make of it. Do your time if you must, bounce around if you must. Aob is a job.

just average the good and bad. sme cmpanies have a much more bad than god and that is a tip off.
You don't see as much about small companies just because there isn't s many people for a resource. I personally MUCH prefer smaller companies and would never want to work for the big boys. My opinion.
Starting wages wont make you rich. especially the first year. depends if you already have the license or you need to train with a co to get it. I'd say anywere from $.28 to .32. I wouldn't personally consider less but I know schneider pays less.
then again I'm picky like that
