I agree from what I've read and heard...Seems every company has someone that loves them and someone that hates them, it's human nature...And if everyone loved anyone of them in particular, EVERYONE would try to work for them...

Yes, wait till you get there and see how many get kicked out of class because of a bad background or DAC.

If they're straight-up in the pre-hire process, that doesn't happen. Its the clowns who think they can hide something and get away with it who go home.walstib Thanks this.

Yeah, like that guy who tried sneaking urine in a cup.
Really, the people that get sent home shouldn't be there anyway. Especially the guys who fail their permit test after the FIFTH TIME.
Or the guy that weighs 300 lbs and can't breathe at night. Common sense, really. -
Passed my written today and got my permit, woohoo!!!!!!!!!

I have to say, it wasn't from anything my teacher taught me, 100% self-studied...He spent the whole week showing videos and going over the logbook as well as logging 2 long runs...Most of week was spent helping one student who 'just doesn't get it', and in my opinion, won't...Out of 4 people in class it looks like only 2 of us will be able to drive on Monday as the one who 'doesn't get it' will never pass the test and one can't get his finances in order and also hasn't taken his test...More drive time for me, woohoo again!!! -
My buddy just got his truck today. He's doing the lease program, and has been down here in Springtown for the last week or so.
I really want to work for Prime. I'm not sure they'll take me, I have a criminal conviction from 15 years ago that may disqualify me right out of the gate. Never been to jail, but it was a dumb dumb thing to do, particularly since it was 3 months after my 18th birthday.
Live and learn I s'pose.
Hopefully I can make it work. I live near Springtown, and am eager to dip my feet into the trucking pool. Would like to train for a CDL, work company driving for 6-12 months, and then move into a lease and team drive with me wife. Seems like a pretty good combo. I have business smarts, but definitely want a firm grasp of the trucking industry, and be comfortable behind the wheel while understanding the processes (logs, qualcomm, etc.) before jumping into the business end of things.
If Prime will have me, does anyone have a good recommendation for a trainer? I know a good trainer is my best key to success with driving, and I will bust my ### every day in every way for a guy that will show me how to do this job the right way.
Thanks in advance for the help. -
Hiring is up, so you might still have a pretty good shot. Whatever you did, it was 15 years ago. People change a lot in 15 years, and we all make mistakes from time to time. I know 15 years ago I did some pretty dumb crap... I just so happened to not get caught.
Prime isn't looking for perfect little angels....believe me, we have a couple questionable people driving around (at ALL companies...not just Prime). Lucky for you, time heals Main thing is to be upfront and honest because they'll find it. If you lie, you're considered to be dishonest and can't be trusted with the hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment and cargo you'll be around every single day. If you're up front and take responsibility for it, then you're just an honest dude who made a dumb decision 15 years ago. So what?
The issue you might run into is the inability to go into Canada if your offense prohibits you from going into the country. But in the nearly 2 years I've been with Prime, I have yet to be dispatched over the boarder so they might not even care. Plus you live in MO...so that can only help.
If the recruiter knows about it and you still get approved, you're going to be fine.
As far as Markk9's comment, I didn't experience anything too abnormal. We lost one guy after he failed the drug test, one guy who apparently lied about his employment history, and one who failed the medical exam (70-something year old guy who couldn't hear worth a darn). There were about 40 people in my orientation. So about 92% made it through the background, medical, drug screen, and orientation. Maybe they weeded more people out after orientation was over, I don't know. But the vast majority of the people at least got through week one.mika84 Thanks this. -

I'm not proud of it, and I hate talking about it because I feel people label me for it even though it's not anywhere near relevant in my current life. But I was convicted of 3rd degree petty theft. Misdemeanor, and no jail time at all. I've never been arrested.
I paid my fine, was a dumb 18 year old kid, and quickly found a job to actually pay for the things I wanted. At 33, I'm ashamed of it to this day. Stupid, stupid, judgment. But I know crimes of dishonesty are a big deal in the trucking world, and Prime even has on their website it's a disqualifying act. I'm going to call a recruiter today and see what they have to say about it. Hopefully we can get it worked out, because I REALLY want to drive for Prime.
Who knew that the stupid things we did as children could haunt us for a lifetime. And it's all over a pack of cigarettes. As I said before though, live and learn. Thanks for the input Mike, very much appreciated. -
Great day! Thanks for the encouragement Mike, it inspired me to make the phone call and talk to a recruiter right away. I was told it would not be a problem, and they could get me in as soon as next week if I can get all my ducks in a row. Super, super, excited. Now it's time to go to work! Thanks again!
