Think about it logically. your comparing local to OTR, which doesnt work.

OTR is likley to be put on a base rate, not a higher local or union style rate, therefore, there will be cuts.

overtime of a low rate is still crap.

Im not saying things dont need to improve, im saying this WILL NOT result in the desired changes.

and with the swifty thing, you've selectivley not understood what i was getting at.

you've not addressed all of my point, so please do so, because its all valid. you cant pick and choose things in life.

You know what? i believe your a driver.

Combine what you have going on now, with what it takes to run the buisness and then tell me its a good idea.
Rather than just standing on your box and saying its good for the driver.
If you squeeze too hard, you will burst the bubble.

Might as well just put cameras in the trucks also to make sure we're sleeping.

I dont feel the need to read anymore of this thread past page 1 but I will say, if everybody ran "RESPONSIBLY", we wouldnt need rules. If everybody did what they were supposed to do, we wouldnt have the gooberment steppin in and mandating what we do and how we do it. Yeah, there are smart drivers out there that drive within their capabilitites but there are also drivers out there that dont have the responsibility and the sense that God gave a goose.

Its because of these drivers why we have these laws, some of them outrageous.

Oh and Grimes, I sure hope you continue to "do the right thing" whenever you run illegally. One slip and they will be all over you. I hope that never happens. I do find it sad that you feel you have to ignore the rules to make ends meet. Oh well, I dont know anything about you other than what I read in this thread but I would have to say if running illegal is pretty much the only thing that keeps you and your family above water, then something isnt right and it needs to be fixed. Sounds to me like you expect the unsightly "natures of the beasts" of driving a truck for a living not affect you in any way. Well, if you cant deal with it, then you are in the wrong profession.

But like I said, if you are safe about your illegal running, then I hope nothing happens to you. But also like I said, if someone finds out about it, yer gonna be makin one helluva donation.

Spoken like a true x-driver working the dispatch office ...

This is about driving hours ... you can "work" all the hours you want.

Kill someone in a car or suv (heaven forbid) ... you will still be charged, sued, and imprisoned.

There is no where near enough rail to move the freight in this country. The price should go up, my cost of living and doing business goes up.

Speculation on your part. I get paid by the hour and care more about my job now then when OTR.

    Again speculation

And that is a bad thing? I believe that most companies already know the cost of waiting at the shippers. The little single O/O might not.

Yes, when implemented correctly!!!!!!!!!!! But, for the most part it has not. Being paid for delays is a major problem with the current system. But, as long as drivers are willing to hide the hours and then run, the companies don't care.

    Again speculation, I make more.

Yes, it's money. Most shippers put a "fine" on late deliveries.

There is no flexible in the HOS rules, we make flexible by breaking the law.

I have shut down 30 min from the terminal and had my dispatcher came and take me home, the bring me back to the truck in the morning. Will that work for OTR, no. But stop the just in time bull crap and drivers could trip plan with more leeway.

I don't care about him playing games, his clock is running on an EOBR.

We all must change and adapt as the times change.

Case in point, I'm a part time wedding photographer. When the industry went from film to digital, it turn the business model upside down. You either adapted or went out of business. Lots of photographers could not adapt and went out of business.

Hmmm.... the last time I heard from a "Swiftie," Jerry and the boys weren't interested in EOBRs or elogs. They're keeping their comic books.

It will all depend on how much pressure the government and insurance companies puts on them.
