worst time for me is when the snow is falling..... makes me sleepy as heck. Really have to be careful not to "drift off".

    Not all the time.:biggrin_2559:

I use to do the power nap thing laying on the bunk with my feet resting on the floor, so I wouldn't sleep too hard. One time though, I laid down and immediately began dreaming about running off the road. The trees were hitting the side of the cab, but they weren't making any noise.

I guess the rush of adrenaline woke me up and I was startled to see that I was back in the sleeper. My first thought was, "OMG, what the hell am I doing in the sleeper when I'm running down the road?"

I sprang behind the wheel and stomped the brake pedal... only to realize I was parked in a rest area.:biggrin_25521:

I stopped sleeping over the steering wheel back in about '83 I guess.

I was still in a Trans Star II and had made it back to the yard and was dogged tired. I decided I was going to take a nap before I went home for the weekend. I woke up to horns blaring and when I jerked up I was looking in through the windshield of another cabover about 3 feet in front of my face! The driver of the oncomming truck was holding his arms over his face and pulling on the horn cord! Needless I did my best to slam the brake pedal and clutch through the floor and rip the trolley handle off the steering column and turning that truck to the left! I swear I looked like an eight armed monkey at a banana picking contest when I see the driver in front of me laughing his arse off and then I looked out my side glass and what do I see but the boss, office guys and a few other drivers doubling over in laughter!

I got MY laugh at them when I unarsed that truck with my tire billy in hand, cussing up a blue colored streak and everyone started taking off in all directions. The fact that I never touched a single step when I launched out of that door like a Hawkeye missile scared them worse than the WMD in my hand!

At least I got a free lunch out of it but I have yet to drape my carcass over the wheel since!

One time I went home and a bunch of friends were camping out at the lake. I was just in for the weekend. So with the local polices permission I bobtailed to where they were camping and pulled down to the lake. After a fun night and everyone went to bed. I woke up about 4am and I saw the lake, trees and fog. My first thoughts was I fell asleep at the wheel and run off the road. I was relieved when I figured out where I was. That's a sickening feeling. :)

I did something similar to my soon to be exwife years ago.
She was riding with me and fell asleep in the passenger seat. I came up on a tow truck, pulling a tractor. (I know this is mean, but I couldn't stop myself )
I got on the CB to the tow truck and told him what I wanted to do. Of course, drivers are always happy to help, so he says go ahead.
I get about 10 feet away from the vehicle being towed and slam on the brakes, pull on the air horn, screaming the whole time! My wife wakes up thinking we are about to die!!!
Needless to say, after I got her to stop shaking and crying, she beat me silly! I had bruises on my right side for awhile!
    But it sure was funny!

Now there is a glutton for punishment! No wonder you're divorced! You pushed her over the edge on that one! HMMM I gotta try it some time! Oh wait a minute. You're still alive after that stunt? Naaah I'll forget this "prank!" Mine is real good with sharp objects, guns, rolling pins, pans, duct tape and super glue!

Never napped at the wheel, but I've had plenty of instances where I was dead arsed tired finishing paperwork for the day and the truck next to me starts to inch forward. Start grabbing the parking brakes thinking I didn't set em. Had a truck that had the opti-idle in it. The first week in that thing every time it started up and shut down I jumped out of the sleeper with my fists ####ed ready to clock someone in the face thinking someone was steeling my truck.
