Despite the nice name, they are a waste company. They have VAC trucks to suck up all kinds of nasty stuff. I'm pretty sure I have also seen them Hauling sewage sludge. They haul all kinds of liquid waste to processing plants and disposal sites. Just keep in mind that what they haul isn't the most healthy stuff to be around.

what I DO KNOW is that you will not only be a driver, but a laborer as well, getting into all that muck they haul away..............

can you say, "i'll be glowing in the dark real soon".............???

I have a yard boss saying (1st sign of lying) that it is mostly drop and hook. No mention of labor and cleanup, just moving tanks OTR here and there.

Any other questions I should ask this guy? Is the stuff they haul any worse then Superior Carriers or Schneider Bulk?

    What do you guy's think?

    16 an hour
    55 for overnite
    38 a mile
    Most weekends TAH
one hour pay for pre and post trip each day= $4500 a year, I think.

I am not interested in glowing in the dark under the covers, but I am interested in Chem tankers for the $$ overall.

    Thanx!

I don't know Clean Harbors specifically, but for several years I was involved with biosolids waste handling, and can give you some insight into those types of companies. In many cases, the drivers do not act as laborers, because they have a specific crew of laborers that go to the plant and operate the vacuum equipped trucks, and then transfer the waste into trailers for haulage. Instead of training everyone there how to use all the equipment, and having all the trailers vacuum equipped, they instead have only a few people with those skills. That crew goes around and does the actual labor.

Obviously, it's all hazmat work and in a compartmented trailer you can have mutliple hazmat items onboard at one time. You will have to have your documents, placards, and knowledge level up for that, since you are a big point of interest with all the hazmat logos on the sides. They also haul solid waste items and packeaged stuff in van trailers.

Handled properly, with the correct safety equipment, and the products can be handled safely. Just make sure that you are comfortable with the trainng there, since you will be no better or safer than what they train you to be.

This morning I stopped at a truckstop outside of Chicago that i knew had the Chicago paper. Additionally, it was a chance for the dog to take her morning walk, and let the morning sun get out of the middle of my windshield.

After taking the dog for her run, I walked over to get the paper, and as I did a Clean Harbors tanker truck passed me. I figured he was leaving the lot, and regretted not getting a chance to talk to him, but as he then parked the truck, I saw an opportunity. After he got out, I stopped and talked to him for a few minutes, and gathered some info.

He said they ae split into two groups, the plant people that use the vactor trucks and trailers and actually do the labor of working in the plants, and the bulk haul division. The bulk haul division works quite a bit differently. He puts his trailer into a loading rack, and it is loaded at the terminal with whatever product by the loaders at the terminal. The only thing he does is check the tank lids since he doesn't fully trust the loaders to seal it. His average haul is over 300 miles, and he pulls into another terminal and the loaders there handle all the unloading.

He said he did well financially on a combo of hourly and mileage pay, and liked the work. He may check into the site soon, and if he does I'll put you in touch with him.

I work for this co. What you don't know is there is National Trans and a local side. I pull National vans. These are labpacks chemicals that are packaged by chemists and drums either at clients sites or at facilities. I have not pulled a tanker or a rolloff frame or any of that glowing sludge:biggrin_2551: All we do is transport haz and non haz drums,totes,recycleables...ie..ewaste (copiers, lightbulbs, computers, batteries) No glowing stuff! I can't speak of the tanker side but yes I am paid well. The guy telling you the rates is true. All of it. Some make more some make less. I am National but we are home every weekend. The local guys are home everynight. You have found a good deal. All I can tell you is they may want you to get your hazwoper training when u start. Hope this helps.

OK That sounds about right. I would be aiming for the anker Division.

I am with Schneider Bulk now and was looking at the options.

    Thanks!
