Very True.... I would have to say a good number of SSN's given out on the docks are fake anyway. Between all the ones I turned in with my paperwork ( lumpers or ones I made up ) no one ever questioned it.

Like another has posted, reading this thread has clinched my decision to not touch vans or reefers. I'd rather work on a deck than wait in a cab.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I had to do this at the Walgreens warehouse in Toledo one day... I told the police the foreman was keeping me here against my will after I told him 5 times to get his **** off of my trailer because we are done screwing around after 7 hours for 7 pallets. He has 15 mins to finish up, or I drop the trailer and go down the street to the federal courthouse and find a US marshal to report my trailer and load stolen. The cops talked it over, and told Mr Tough Guy that he was going to jail for one step below kidnapping if this doesnt get settled in the next 10 seconds. Talk about an attitude adjustment LOL...

Ok, I have to ask where are all these lumpers at? I used to work in all types of warehouses. Small ones up to DC warehouses and in the times I worked warehouses I never got a check from a driver, nor did I see any driver give a check to any other person unloading the trucks.

Also is all this just with dry vans or van & reefers? Sorry for asking I'm new..

According to new health care bill, if you give someone more than $600 over the course of the year you have to issue a 1099! :)

All the major grocery warehouses. I like lumper's, Drivers should drive and not gamble on getting hurt on the dock. These contracts are negotiated with full knowledge of the system in place.

Use the time for a well needed nap.

I have been lumping trucks from Fresno to Woodland Ca for 18 years and finally getting into trucking, alot of warehouses are using services now and pushed out the indepndent lumpers, mostly Mexicans doing it now.The lumper fee s have gone up quite abit,i used to unload a 3000 plus caseload of procter and gamble on the floof for $100 now on pallets it could go for 300 to 400$,drivers can earn some extra money unloading there own trucks when they can,and i have seen alot of them doing it lately.

I used to help the lumper and split the money with them. Baby food was a good money maker.

Only time I don't use the lumper is if they give me a power pallet jack or a forklift. But seeing how none of them have given me a forklift. And they hardly ever give me a power pallet jack. I really don't understand how they leaglly can do this? They ordered the crap we deliver it to thier dock and want to charge use to unload the crap they ordered. It just pisses me off. Then to top it off my company only pays me $40 bucks to unload it but will pay them $250 to do the same #### thing. I don't see how they are worth $250-$400 but I am only worth $40.Personally I think the whole thing is BULL SHE YACHT
